The Charleston bucket was absolutely worth every penny. Fresh oysters, shrimp, and Crab legs.
Live music and wonderful service.

I had dinner here on my first visit to Folly beach. I had the seafood platter grilled, and it was great. I wasn't fond of the keylime pie, and I love key lime pie so that was disappointing. Great staff.

The kids were tired so I walked out of our condo in search of some quality take out to bring home. So glad I walked in. Aaron at the bar was quick to get my order and give some pointers on what’s good. Harry, a local legend, was at the bar and took the time to give me a warm welcome and full history of the island. It was like walking into Cheers. The food was fantastic and a great value too!

Another great time! Always head to The Crab Shack on every visit. Best Crab Dip in all the land! Thanks to Aaron for making our time there amazing. Even Ron stopped and had a great conversation with us. Got a tshirt & hot sauce to go. As always great food, amazing folks, and awesome drinks!

Delicious food and great service! Loved our waitress who pointed us in the right direction to go an explore the town. Also, you get great amount of food for the price. We tried the snow crab and shrimp bucket and it was delicious!

My family and I were seated quickly. The food was very good over all but not a large selection on the menu which is ok. We enjoyed the "she crab" soup and fried green tomatoes were really good. Excellent fried shrimp and peel and eat shrimp. The live music was an added bonus.

Everything was excellent. Especially the crab balls. Chloe made our afternoon with her great service.

Totally laid back place. Nothing fancy. Seafood is fresh and tasted good. This place came highly recommend. Server was good. Food came out in a timely manner.
I thought my fried shrimp tasted fishy but maybe I could be spoiled by our New England shrimp! It’s worth a try, enjoy

Great customer service. Nice chill location. I had just the right amount of seafood an a great drink to go along with it.

The She Crab soup was excellent. The service was great. Shrimp and grits were very creamy, but bland. The $22 dozen gulf oysters were pitifully tiny and probably equated to 4 normal oysters. This is not exaggeration.

We got to crab artichoke dip. It was alright. We also got the grilled seafood plate. The fish was a bit dry, the rice and sausage was dry and not hot. The collard greens overcooked. My drink was served in a plastic disposable cup and was way too sweet. On the uo side our server was nice.

The food was very good. The atmosphere is hippie chic. Don’t drink the water…it tasted awful. The shrimp is off da hook! They were out of hush puppies though and that sucked. That’s why I dinged them a star. Highly recommend.

The crab ball app was good, but a crab shell found in each one. The shrimp & grits was a disappointment, grits had lumps & overall it lacked flavor. Shrimp shell found in it as well. The crab casserole had an entire shrimp tail in it. Overall disappointed. Atmosphere was great & service was good.

Everything we ordered as a group of 7 was spectacular and we LOVE our cuisine.excellent.so amazing and our service was great.friendly.timely

We sat outside and watched the tourists hustle by. I had an excellent flounder. Service was excellent.

My wife and I had a crab &shrimp boil.corn tasted like it soaked in dish water, shrimp were over cooked and the crab was ok. They have no steamers, service was ok.

I’m from NC, was on vacation with my family & I walked by the restaurant & it smelled so yummy so we decided to go in & try the food & it was very delicious & friendly staff! Hope to be back soon

Jesse was a Super Waitress we love eating outside because of the pandemic and they let us sit out on the front a lot of times people get forgotten when they're not basically right in front of somebody we were enjoying the breeze and the food was incredibly perfect my shrimp was so tender perfectly spiced service made it incredible there's not many people even wanting to work these days and to have five star service thanks again oh and tell them SuperDave sent you?

We stopped in for lunch with our 4 legged daughter. They brought her a bowl of fresh water with our drinks. We had the Oysters and Snow crab & Shrimp bucket. Both were delicious! Our server was a friendly efficient young lady. We love people watching as well.

Food and service were great! -
I took a star off because the front outside covered deck area and bathrooms cleanliness. They are in serious need of cleaning. My family and I live near the beach and on an intercoastal river so we understand the fight to keep the outside clean, however, we aren't a restaurant. The tabletops had some kind of hard grime on them, ceiling hangings and fans need scrubbing, and deck itself needs a pressure wash. A macrame hanging ball was above our table and I watched a clump of dirt/dust ball fly down onto an empty nearby table from the dirty hanging.
In the women's restroom, the baseboards, walls, and sink area had rust and dirt for days. Perception is everything and it makes me wonder what the kitchen looks like. Seafood food borne illness is no joke. Customers eat with their eyes.

For crab leg / shrimp buckets! Loved the calamari, crab soup, & crab balls! We ordered just about everything. Nick did a great job with our big table. The sinister black bird added to the atmosphere.

Been eating here fir over 20 years, They really need to improve on their food. Staff was excellent. I will go back just hope it will improve.

Editing this review due to a conversation with Ron Hill, owner. The food was mediocre on our last visit and as the photo showed there were some cleanliness challenges. Ron was very apologetic and did more than I could have asked to make a bad situation better. I appreciate his honesty and willingness to work with us to try and work through the challenges. Ron has said he has already addressed the cleanliness issues and we will give it another try the next time we are in Folly Beach. If every business owner addressed issues the way Ron has, I would have no issue returning for another visit. Looking forward to meeting him and giving their menu another try.

Wait time was double what was said, while empty tables were open, one we were only feet away from, was cleaned and opened for 20 minutes. We had two waitresses, I guess we were there durin a shift swap. So our drinks were empty most of the visit. Me and my son shared a steam boil with only the pot and no plates, didn’t see our waitress till the extra plate wasn’t even needed at that point. No napkins. We ordered a lot of food and paid decent for our meal and just had terrible service. I’ve been once before and loved it and was excited to go back, just bummed out this evening went the way it did.

If I could go back in time and slap me in the face for even considering going in I would. The food was soooo salty I’ll be surprised if I don’t get high blood pressure. The tea had so much water in it just gave me an idea of what tea actually tastes like. DO NOT go in here. Save your money and hungry belly to a better place.

Amazing service and amazing food. The oysters were amazing I also got the hot crab dip which was the bomb. I will definitely be returning when I go back to Charleston. The owner took it a step further with customer, I left something there and he had it shipped to me in NC. This place deserves 1000 stars, thank you so much!

I had the crab cakes and grilled shrimp. I really enjoyed that this place was so accommodating and allowed me to substitute the fried shrimp with grilled.

The shrimp was very hard to peel, but the crab cake and remoulade was the best crab cake I've had while on vacation, and I've had a few. The ratio of binder to meat was perfect.

Collard greens were great as well, rice was a miss for me.

The she crab soup had a little too much cream and not enough crab for my liking. But overall it wasn't horrible.

Service was great and fast. The wait to get in was 25mins for 5 people on a Saturday so great!

Food was good & fresh! …. And our server was very nice. I forgot his name but he indicated he has been there for awhile! He was awesome!

Been here a few times on our Folly Beach visits, their food is consistently good and if you are in the mood for seafood definitely a good spot to hit.

Food was absolutely amazing, seafood is expensive but you definitely get what you pay for here. Everything tasted excellent and the service was great, you can tell they're hiring good employees who care about their job. Great place, would recommend to anyone looking for a place to eat.

Appetizers was not fresh. All frozen and deep fried. Servings were small for $40 per person. Not good at all. How can you mess up fresh seafood? They found a way.

Called to place takeout order and was told they could not do takeout with 9 orders. Said they were running out of to-go trays. He said they could not have someone walk out with that many boxes when people weee waiting. I said he would be losing business and he said “ I don’t care and hung up. Very rude.

The collard greens were so flavorful and everything we ate was perfectly breaded, meaning lightly breaded. Definitely coming back, for the crab balls too.

By far one of my favorite places to go when I visit the beach. My friends and I make it a tradition now to eat there. The food is excellent and not too expensive. The environment is open and fun, and the service is always fast and polite. All in all a 10/10 Recommend.

I have always loved this place, however the service at our last visit was the not great. After writing a review, the owner replied. I called him to discuss our experience, as he requested. He is a real stand up guy that wants to make his place better. He assured me he would address the issues we experienced and work on ways that wouldn't happen in the future. I understand now that the restaurant industry has had a hard way to go over the last year. I will, in the future, address an issue with management while in a facility rather that writing a review later. I'm am thankful for the opportunity to speak with Ron and giving a fair chance to make improvements of a situation he wouldn't have known had I not spoken to him. We will give the Crab Shack another try very soon. Thank you Ron for being a caring business owner. You've earned our respect!

I very rarely leave negative reviews, but I wish I would have known before going how bad the experience was going to be, so I hope this is helpful. The waitress was nice but our service was really slow (and even in the middle of July, it wasn’t very busy). The crab cake I got was burnt and had shell in it. The fried shrimp was actually okay, but not very flavorful, and the rice was so undercooked it was hard. My friend got calabash seafood basket, which she said was also not anything to write home about. I’m not very picky, and I was really excited for seafood, so I wanted to like this place, but that was just not the case.

Fantastic seafood restaurant! We were told a 30 minute wait and only ended up waiting 10 minutes. The seafood is fresh and the staff are friendly and attentive. We loved the local music also! Definitely recommend this place!

It's good. Service good. Family had a shrimp boil plate, a grilled seafood plate and a fried seafood plate. All good. Plan ahead because beach waits are about 1 hour for evey.placd. Skip desert but other than that, I recommend

Great service. Fast and fresh food. Went for the calamari and the fish and chips. All was good but the calamari was by far the best part of the meal. Can easily tell all of the seafood has never been frozen. Parking is hit or miss but no worse than anywhere else on Folly Beach. If you're visiting pay really close attention to the posted parking rules.

We love the Crab Shack in Folly and have had many great meals here but today was unfortunately a let down. We ordered the fried green tomatoes and the romaloude (spelling) sauce was half filled cup of maybe an ounce of sauce, clearly not enough for the entire appetizer. We were able to get one more half filled sauce cup from Jessica H our server.

Our entrees were fried shrimp for me and my wife had the snow/shrimp bucket. Oddly enough my shrimp was served with collards and red beans and rice…the rice was dried out with no moisture left at all. Shrimp with these sides are an odd pairing, whereas fries and slaw might have been more appropriate.

My wife’s snow crabs were either cooked improperly or sat under the heat lamp for a bit because both the crab/shrimp on her order not hot at all. If I was a betting man I would bet that our server rang in the appetizer and entrees at the same time and our entrees sat under a heat lamp while we ate our appetizer.

Ron, I know this pandemic has ravaged the food service industry and well trained good quality help is hard to keep staffed and no doubt Jessica was probably trained to ring in appetizer first then the entrees so as to avoid an instance such as this but she didn’t. It was not busy at the time of arrival around 4pm.

Again Ron, we love the Crab Shack and will probably visit in a few more weeks while on vacation. Food service was a passion of mine for almost forty years until I retired, my mind still thinks I can do it but the feet/knees/back tell me otherwise. Thank you for what you do and I pray things will get back to normal soon, we’ve all been through enough…God Bless

EDITED REVIEW…. Our return visit to the Crab Shack. We did return for a visit today and it was wonderful. Rebecca was our server and she was busy but attentive in her service, so a shout out to her. The food came out in a timely fashion and was plenty hot enough.

My wife enjoyed her shrimp and crab bucket and our youngest had the same and he ate every bite…. Where does this boy put all this food? Our daughter enjoyed the fried shrimp and I had the crab stuffed flounder, all quite delicious.

This is the experience we remembered from our past visits going back about six years ago when we first stopped in and The Crab Shack delivered. Thank you Ron we enjoyed this very much.

We will be heading your way again next time we visit Folly, until then, thanks for a wonderful visit today, your team did a great job!

Delicious food and worth the price. I highly recommend especially if you're vacationing in the area.

If you're on Folly, stopping here is a MUST. The food is AMAZING (perfectly cooked!) and the Bloody Mary sure was too!: D

Really over priced, my wife got ill after eating grilled chicken on her garden salad, charged my 3 year old grandson 2.50 for a child's Sprite. My grilled seafood meal was cold and tasteless, go someplace else.

ME AND MY FRIEND GAIL WAS THERE TWO WEEKS AGO THEY HAVE AWESOME FOOD THE PEOPLE WAS FRIENDLY THEY WERE VERY FAST THE FOOD WAS WARM NOT HOT BUT IT WAS WARM IT WAS GOOD REALLY GOOD I WILL GO BACK THERE TO EAT AGAIN THE DRINK WAS FABULOUS WE HAD THE CRABBY PAD PATTY BURGER AND IT WAS AWESOME YOU NEED TO GO HAVE ONE

Worst experience ever. I went with a big party and we had a 2hr wait so we went exploring around. Do one told us by time the 2hrs we're up the kitchen would be closing. We got back when our buzzer went off and went to sit. We we're told we did have a server for our area since they were short staffed and we needed to order at the bar and thats fine we understood. One of the ladies in my party went to order and she was time she could not order the items she wanted since the menu was limited. Another lady went right behind her and they let her order everything she wanted along with the fried foods they just told the previous lady she could not order. I went to order afterwards and they told me they were serving no apps, kids meals and fried food. A lady in our group went back up there for her daughter a grilled cheese and they let her order it along with hushpuppies. Everyone at our table who was able to get food hated it and the food truck across the street which is where I ended up going was a whole lot better. Higher recommend the philly

So.normally my reviews are funny and sarcastic, but.this was disappointing. I understand with covid places are chronically understaffed, but this place dangerously understaffed. In a sense, it was a sports bar in that you had to time shouting at the waitress for napkins as she ran by. Not that she was rude, but completely overwhelmed.

As to the food.completely overpriced and utterly underwhelming. Crab shack is a misnomer. It's crab leg shack. Like, like warm crab legs that have been sitting awhile. Potatoes undercooked. Corn overcooked. Sauce sparse and have been sitting awhile. Raw bar was a joke.

The only good thing was the hush puppies. Like, they were really good.

Sorry for the review, but not worth the ridiculous price.

Such a great staff. We had a special food allergy in our party (no old bay) and they went above and beyond to accommodate. Can't thank them enough. The seafood was spot on! Definitely on my must do list for next my next Folly visit
