Poe's Tavern - Sullivans Island

We get there and there is a 30 min wait. When they Seat us they put us out side in 50 degree weather.my sister was freezing so we ask to turn on the heater they said "they where out of gas" but when we where leaving they but gas in and they where not out of gas. We put in our order and our host forgets to put it in and we have to remind her after it take 45 min to come out. Othere people got seated ate and left before we got our food. Food was fine at best

Burgers and beers. What is there not to love? Everything does seem to be a couple of bucks overpriced, but you can say that about most things these days.

I am confused at the 3%service fee. I paid in cash and was still charged. It looks like they are trying to cover the credit card processing fee, but you are taxed this 3% no matter what.

Stopped in after Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Burgers were spot on. Service was amazing. Great wind down after a long week.

I had a coworker recommend Poe's Tavern, and I'm happy he did. My wife and I both had burgers and they were delicious and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was cool and different with Poe items all around. They offer a wide variety of beer if you're into that as well. Check it out if you're in the mood for a good burger and cool atmosphere.

Hunger strike after a day at the beach? Take a trip over to Poe’s Tavern. Nested in historical Sullivan Island’s main strip, Poe’s offers some of the best food and atmosphere on the island. Grab Edgar’s Nachos to start then a Hop Frog and Black Cat for dinner.

The nachos are sure to please with the thin crispy chips, guacamole, salsa, beans, ground beef with sautéed peppers and onions, cheese, and chipotle ranch. Follow that by a Hop Frog (beef, chicken, or veggie) layered with Monterrey Jack, Bacon, and BBQ sauce. My wife wanted the Black Cat (beef, chicken, or veggie) with bacon, pimento cheese, chili, and grilled onions. Both were served with perfectly seasoned fries.

Sitting on the patio, fans and wind blowing, made for a perfect atmosphere to relax and dine. Highly suggest checking this place out!

Veggie burger was delicious! We also went at prime dinner time and were able to get a table immediately inside. Parking is hard to find but if you are up for a walk you can probably fine street parking or a beach lot.

Been waiting for the prime time to visit Poe’s as my wife favorite author is Edgar Allan Poe. Sunday afternoon lunch, it took a little wait but didn’t disappoint at all. Kids loved it, very cool area and food was spot on. Blue cheese coleslaw was simply grand! Head on down, join the locals of Mt Pleasant, and welcome to Sunny SC!

5 stars for the burgers We sat outside and it was super cute. Not much elbow room, and our table was kinda scary… as in it might not hold us but maybe it’s all part of the theme like there was a portion of plank missing (broken or rotted?) on my sons side of the. They do the scan your menu thing, likely bc of space? Great little casual dining spot. Service was great. Waters stayed topped off, and extra napkins came out with app. I had the sleeper and Hubbs got the black cat. Son got tell tale heart. Other son had quesadilla - he says it was excellent - and younger kids got burgers off kids menu. I ordered mine medium and it was cooked perfect to temp requested. Burgers were SO tasty and juicy. Great burger combos. The deliciousness of the burger was enough to negate the scary table situation would absolutely return and highly recommend!

THIS WAS GROSS! Almost 90 bucks for a shrimp taco a chicken quesadilla and some nachos. Ridiculous. The nachos were awful…The chicken quesadilla wasn’t the best either. The shrimp taco wasn’t even good. The service was not good either however they were very busy so, though he was rude and how hard is it to pop a top off of a beer. 20 MINUTES FOR A BEER that’s ridiculous. I am so disappointed, I expected so much more. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!

This place used to be very special- a place you wanted to go to for a bite or a brew. Now the food we got was not BAD, just very mediocre.not worth the drive, the price, or the hassle.
If you are already close and want to, by all means stop and try it out, just don't drive far to do it. Have fun.

Yea I don’t get the hype. More than one local told us to come here. It’s like…just weird over the top burgers & chicken sandwiches. Literally on an island with barely any seafood? I asked about the fresh market fish tacos & the waitress told me they weren’t ready yet. It was the middle of the day. Hot & dirty inside. Food was fine but, just nothing special.

My burger was overcooked and when I asked if this was normal for the beef patty to look like that or if in his opining it was over cooked, he said that it was supposed to be that way bc it was a kids burger… I am not sure since when kids burgers are supposed to look this. The atmosphere and spot are cool however. Everyone else’s food looked great though.

This place has been on my bucket list to try for a while. Wow it did not disappoint. We stopped by today and it was as advertised. This place was awesome. The food, service and atmosphere was great. We had the fish Tacos and burger. Both we delicious. This place is very busy during summer time. We got in at 11am and walk right in. We will be coming back.

Came here for a day trip to Sullivan’s Island. I ordered a Yellowfin Tuna Taco with a side of fries, girlfriend ordered a Buffalo Shrimp Taco, side of fries. For a lunch rush on a weekday, they were right on the money, our server was helpful and courteous, and the food was spectacular. The decor here kept us entertained while we waited for the food, with subtle reminders of Edgar Allan Poes military service on Sullivan’s Island, and the food was delicious. The Tuna taco was amazing, with pineapple chunks delivering a sweet taste, offset by chipotle sour cream bring a mild spice in the mix, and hand cut, super thin French fries with sea salt. My girlfriend said the Buffalo shrimp was not the best she’s had, but not disgusting, and she enjoyed her food. And all for $31! That allowed me to leave a generous tip and I love that! All in all, we went from hungry to filled up with some delicious food in 45 minutes! Highly recommend!

Good selection of beers on tap - mostly local. Simple fare - good burgers and decent fish tacos. Would like to see more seafood options or specials on the menu.
Always crowded, but tables tend to turn fast.

Not many tacos for the price, but they were good, as was the tavern salad - didn't get the name of the house (?) dressing, but it was delicious! Men's restroom is worth a look - wallpapered in Poe book pages.

Absolutely LOVE coming here! I come to Charleston to work at least three times a year and I’ve made it a habit to come here.
This visit i not only had my large dog, Thomas, with me but I also had a broken arm as well. My server was Brittany and she was so kind and really on top of it. I also spoke with many other employees because my dog loves attention lol and I remember talking with Emily about a place I should try back where I live and she was very sweet and Thomas loved her! This place never disappoints me and I highly recommend dining here! Thank you guys so much for the kindness and awesome customer service!

Amazing food. Queso dip was incredible, and burgers were exact to order and spot on. It is a busy place, so there was a wait, but there is a bar you can order from or relax in a covered waiting area by the patio. Staff was extremely friendly. Erin took care of us and was great!

Food was excellent. Can't say enough about how awesome that burger was. And the place was completely covered in Poe pictures and books and what not.

Be prepared to for the wait though. They're getting 3 stars from me because we waited 48 minutes on our food. We watched a couple of tables that were set after my wife and I had been seated, almost finish their food before we even saw ours. The waiter also told us 4 different times over a 20 minute span the food would be right out. 10 minutes after the last time he talked to us we got it.

Very good! Came here cause it was close. Had burgers and other stuff. Great food. Waiting was a bit long but it was worth it. Nice staff. Not a bad experience!

It’s my husband’s birthday. He’s enjoyed Poe’s Tavern over the years. We live in NC and decided to come to Charleston for his special day, including Sullivan’s Island. I was quite disappointed in the service and meal. Our godson ordered cheeseburger w/fries; I ordered grilled cheese w/fries, and Michael ordered his tuna taco w/potato salad. Michael was completely satisfied. Marcus and I barely touched our meal. His burger was cooked to a crisp. My grilled cheese was just awful. Both our fries were cold and as if they had been leftovers from the batch. Not once did our server, Meg, ask if everything was alright. As a matter of fact, she never asked us anything except are we finish with our plates. She did
ask Michael if he wanted more tea. I was expecting better service.

Burger cooked medium well with Brioche bun makes for a dry bite. I recommend getting it cooked medium. The burger with shrimp had amazing flavor. Place is busy but worth the wait.

Says I side at the bar for a couple of beers post beach. The indoor bar is open to an outdoor bar so got the AC air and ocean breeze from the bar stool. Good service and place to cool off!

This place was everything we hoped for! I got the Amontillado burger and it was amazing, and the fries were good too! I’m from KY so it was a nice surprise to see Yuengling in SC. 10/10 would recommend Poe’s. The atmosphere was also just effect and the Edgar Allen Poe book pages on the walls in the bathroom was a nice touch!

Visited this ADORABLE themed restaurant on a Wednesday, last week of July. The wait time was small (20 mins). The atmosphere was fabulous, the cocktail was delicious (Edgar’s Manhattan), and the nachos were FANTASTIC (Edgar’s Nacho’s). You must scan a QR code to access the menu.

The only reason I can’t give this place two stars is due to the waiter, who’s name I didn’t get. He was rude and short with our table while taking our order, and that was the last time we saw him. Other servers brought our food, and refilled our drinks. I would understand if he had been busy, however we could see him perched in the corner, on his phone, most of our time there. Unfortunately, our table wasn’t the only one being neglected by him.

There is Poe stuff everywhere. Everywhere. Tasty burgers. I had one topped with a crab cake! Beers, wines, cocktails. Place gets busy, it's a bit loud, but that just means the food is good, the drinks are flowing and people are having a good time. A lot of locals while we were there.

I ordered the grilled chicken salad and I’ve got to say it wasn’t very good. I sure wouldn’t recommend it. The tea was good though.

Friday night dinner ~8: 40 pm and got seated right away for a party of 4. Very interesting vibe with all of the portraits of Poe. Our booth had a picture of his grave. All of the menu items are named after his works which was cute. We each got either The Sleeper burger or the Citrus Marinated Mahi Mahi fish tacos. The roasted garlic blue cheese on the sleeper burger made it a bit too salty and 느끼해 personally but overall it was still pretty good. The blue cheese slaw was good with an interesting flavor but also a bit salty personally. Fries were fine. Friend said the taco was pretty good as well. Overall we enjoyed our meal and our waitress was very nice and quick.

Restroom has two stalls but is a pretty cramped space so it was kinda difficult to enter/exit esp with multiple people. The place itself had a bit of an ammonia/sweat odor. Parking was a bit weird. There was a tiny lot right next to the restaurant and another slightly bigger lot right next to it. We also saw a sign for poes tavern parking a bit further down the street on the other side.

I had dinner here last night. Great atmosphere, reminded me of an old beach house. The food was excellent. I had a steak and it was perfect. The have Evan Williams as the house bourbon and that was a pleasant surprise. I recommend this place highly and will return.

This is a regular place we visit whenever we vacation at the Isle of palms. The service is great, food and drinks are awesome and there is indoor and outdoor seating. The only con is the parking. Not enough parking spots available near the restaurant, but as long as it's a nice day, I don't think you'll mind the walk

Took a while for food service, idk, idk how long it takes to make 3 sushi rolls, but maybe it's 30 minutes. But low key worth it. I was mad, but I can't be with this sushi omg it's so good️️️

Trying to enjoy a birthday lunch with the music blasting from the kitchen competing with the dining room music was a nightmare. Our server was very polite, told us she hated it too. She asked the kitchen to turn it down. They did not. I asked a bus boy if i could speak to the manager, he said sure and went to get her. He came back and asked me if he could help me. I asked him if she didn’t want to talk to us, and he was dumbfounded. Brook obviously didn’t have time. I’ve been coming here since 2003, I’ve never had such a horrible experience. I get that times are hard with employees. I handle customer service for a local restaurant in Charleston. I can’t remember the last time a request was completely ignored by a Resturant. Sure, we could have left, but my husband wanted your burger for his birthday and love over misery sometimes wins. Do better. I wonder how long it will take you to respond….

My friends and I went for burgers and they were absolutely huge and delicious. The decorations were on theme and I loved the feeling the old house the restaurant is in.

If you like being ripped off, this place is for you! I ordered two pints of a local hazy IPA, gave the bartender a $20 spot, and he brought me 4 whole pennies back. Won't make this mistake again.

This is a really cool, typically crowded spot.and for good reason. The service and food were both good, and the Bloody Mary's (and other specialty drinks) were fantastic.

Shrimp taco was good, spicy and flavorful. Be aware the is very little parking in that area so if you go be patient or be lucky

Great service from Paul. No wait time for an early dinner on a Wednesday night. Food served quickly and we love the atmosphere. It’s been 10 years since we have been here (brought our cheeseburger loving girls for the first time!) Excellent bar and beer selection. One critique is none of us cared for the buns. Burgers and toppings and even the fries all delicious. But the bread for the buns was dry and almost too much bread for the size of the burger.

The wait for seating was easy. The wait for the food was long. Bathrooms disgusting. Tried to get T-shirts and they did not have an adequate supply or information about ordering on line. Their attitude about it was uncaring. Food was pretty good though.

Service was good. All servers and hostess working hard. The tuna taco was a dud and had only half a piece of tuna (see pic). Shrimp taco was good. I do not recommend.kitchen looked dirty

The food was great, our server not so much. I gave it four stars because we love this place and will probably be back next time we're in town. Hopefully, the service (server specifically) will be better next time.

Super disappointed with both the service and the food. We came from two hours away based on the decor and great reviews. Our meal took over two hours start to finish, it wasn’t as if they were slammed. When our food arrived (32 minutes after ordering) our food was cold and soggy.

Eh, from all the reviews I saw I was very excited.but quickly let down. Our server had no personality at all and I've had better burgers at burger King. Disappointed because this was on my list of " must eat at" places while visiting. Maybe they were just having an off night?

Over two hour wait for cold food. Second time. Manager ended up running it to the wrong table, then brought incorrect bill after promising to correct it. Bartender told us they were"preoccupied and under pressure because corporate was there" today at 530pm. There's more but I'm tired and still hungry.after two hours, we still didn't eat a meal. Check was incorrect. Billed for more than what we ordered.hopefully corporate was there to remedy all this.

Amazing food, history behind the building and the man who the building was named after was very intriguing. Definitely recommend giving the food a try!

Came here on a moderately busy day. I wish I could tell you how the food tasted but after the hostess seated us NO ONE EVER CAME TO TAKE OUR ORDER.
