We were there for Christmas week and our anniversary, walking to dinner on Christmas Day, almost everything closed and looking for somewhere to pause for a martini we stumbled upon BENNIE’s. The bartender was AWSOME, met and talked at length with another couple, that happens with three martinis. The bartender gave us all kinds of info and things to see. We spotted the ULTIMATE COCONUT CAKE, 11 layers of decadence, I forgot my vest there, called and told them I would get it in the morning since it was raining. Within bout half hour, a call from the concierge saying it was at the front desk. Forgot the bartenders name but she worked Christmas Day and is a special young lady. The BLOOD ORANGE MARGARITA WAS AWSOM AS WELL
Pretty new, modern premise. It’s a bit different than most others in Charleston. You feel comfortable and service was good. Coconut cake was delicious, but on the other hand expensive.
We were there a month ago and there was a personable bartender named Braden or Brandon that made great cocktails and gave great service! Very friendly and helpful!
I went there after seeing it on Southern Charm. Had the best time! The bartender Brandon was so hospitable and made the best espresso martini I’ve ever had! There was a smoke bubble on top of it that when you popped it released the smell of coffee in the air. The place is such a good vibe. The coconut cake is not to be missed, but the crème brûlée was also phenomenal! Run, don’t walk, to Benne’s!
Stopped by to grab a slice of coconut cake and a place to relax while we waited for a late night dinner reservation elsewhere. Charming and quaint place for dessert and drinks. Everyone was pleasant but the taller male bartender wasn’t very attentive, almost ignored us. Good thing the other gentleman with glasses stepped in. Grabbed a Grasshopper Pie and yes, if you’re wondering the Ultimate Coconut Cake is everything.
At first I was wary because I don't like coconut, but Benne's chocolate mousse was truly incredible. We came back a second time and discovered that the peanut butter pie was even better! Treat yourself to a delicious break while shopping at the Charleston Market, and don't forget to grab an espresso martini while you're at it.
Great place for a nightcap and dessert after dinner. Had the coconut cake and a white chocolate raspberry tart. Both were delicious. Staff topped off the experience!
The young man working there was amazing! I am sorry I didn’t get his name. He made my Birthday extra special by going out of his way during an issue with the store computer when he could have been frustrated or focused on the issue, but instead he made my day. He didn’t even know he made my day and Birthday special until after his act of kindness and I told him. I wanted to make sure everyone knows how amazing the Coconut Cake is and how amazing the customer service is as well!
Atmosphere is good and staff was young but pleasant. We tried the overpriced "Oprah's favorite thing slice of Coconut cake. It's $15 a slice or $140 for the whole cake. While it is pretty and a large slice, it's definitely overpriced as I have had enter for less money. I would think that $10 is a fair and reasonable price for that piece of cake, but it's a tourist trap kin oof thing. My sister and other family members that live in Charleston and frequently go out downtown in the market area have never been there and have friends that aren't impressed either. Basically, it's a bar/Cafe with overpriced desserts.
Coffee was great. Chicken salad wrap was soggy and cold with wilted lettuce, like it had been frozen and thawed. Husband’s bagel was microwaved rather than toasted.
Ah Benne's.what a cake they make here. Oh boy! If you like coconut cake, look no further Benne's has it on lock. We had the good fortune of tasting the Ultimate Coconut Cake here on a culinary tour. Hands down an absolute must if you are in Charleston.
This monster cake is like 10 layers of light fluffy cake with icing in between. The outer edge covered in toasted coconut. Amazing!
I know coconut might not be everyone's favorite, but I am a huge coconut fan and I will not pass this place ever without my fix of this cake. 10/10 for me.
Stuff was just rude! Theu brought us cold coffee, said that they are out of the desert we ordered, though they had 3 pieces of them available. We were with an infant baby and had to wait for like an hour for the bill. I had to tell to get our credit card back.
Elegant, intimate dessert spot with coffee. Everything looked delicious. We took out some cream brulee. Would stop again and enjoy a dessert inside. Beautiful atmosphere!
Thank you Olivia, your recommendation for the veggie sammie was incredible! It was the best sandwich I have experienced in a very long while. Thank you Olivia and Bobbie.will be back with friends and fam soon!
OMG! Our waitress Rebekah made us Creamy Coconut Mojitos to go with our Ultimate Coconut Cake, and am I glad that I listened to her! I wanted to try a different cocktail and she suggested these would go better with the cake. She was right! Both the drinks and cake were amazing, one of the highlights of our Charleston visit! Benne’s you are lucky to have Rebekah as an employee!
Came for the coconut! It’s a M. U. S. T! Also had the crème brûlée and Couple of croissants! Quaint and charming place and the foos is delicious! Definitely one of our top recommendation for places to go and grab a bite. Bring home some of the coconut cake!
Best coffee (Illy) in town and super friendly staff. If you a done with all the frittata, bacon&egg all over this is the #1 place in Charleston to go and enjoy best croissant, pain au chocolat ecc
