Great hotel. In my opinion, it leaves something to be desired because it does not offer food, meaning you have to leave the hotel to eat.

It's a shame. They used to have tea and drink service if you wanted to meet with people in the afternoon, but they recommended Starbucks rou d the corner. Not quite the same thing!

I have stayed at the empire every time I travel to nyc. Mostly to see the Met opera. Great place for the opera

There was no way to control the temperature of the room it seemed permanently stuck on 77. The mini fridge didn’t work. Part of our shower knob was falling apart and the water pressure was awful. The rooms were small. Our door didn’t shut all the way. It takes them about an hour to get towels. The WiFi you constantly have to connect to. The tv doesn’t connect to the wifi.

Very dated, dirty rooms, clueless front desk. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else, waste of money.

This was a NIGHTMARE that cost $438 for one evening.

We had a view to a puddle with trash in it but zero light because of a heavy vinyl covering that could not be propped up. Worse, the room was SO damp, inescapably damp, the wallpaper peeling and the paint bubbling off the door it was so damp. Even the ancient carpet was damp. My dry clothes became damp overnight just sitting in that room, and my hair frizzed uncontrollably. But it was also freezing due to AC we had zero control over. Even a basic Hampton Inn lets you manage the thermostat, no? These rooms clearly haven’t been renovated for 20+ years. To top it off, there were no hangers or bottled water in the room—but we were charged a $20 additional fee for the missing complimentary water in the room, the pool that was closed for the season, etc.

In short, this was a ripoff so extreme that it’s almost impressive. I did email the front desk about all of this. They did not offer any refund. They did apologize that the room ‘not entirely to your liking, ’ as if I’m a snob for not wanting to pay hundreds of dollars to sleep in a windowless swamp of a room.

I didn't stay in the hotel. I had brunch at the Rooftop restaurant. The food was excellent and the drinks were good. Pearla was a great hostess and I will definitely return soon. The hospitality manager was very accommodating. Thank you so much for making my birthday a great one!

Don’t do it. This place is disgusting. When I read the reviews of it being outdated but clean I thought I can live with that… but this place is run down. We found lashes and lipstick under our bed. We caught the cleaning lady trying to go into our room when she thought we had left, when inquired about it at the front desk we were told she needed to be reported, the gentleman seemed really frazzled but offer no other explanation. After that when we did request service she set our alarm clock. By far the worst hotel experience, I wouldn’t recommend.

I was pleasantly surprised by our stay after reading the reviews that others wrote. The employees were very accommodating and polite, our room was clean and comfortable, and our view of the city was wonderful. Thank goodness for the air conditioning because outside it reached 100 degrees during our stay. The beds were a bit small, but that is to be expected in a small room in the city. The pool was very small as well, but so refreshing in the extreme heat. Location was great - walking distance to many attractions and restaurants. I would absolutely stay here again!

Amazing hotel! I have stayed many times over the years and never fails! Staff are lovely, rooms are spacious clean and comfortable. Right in the heart of midtown and stones throw from Central Park. Wouldn't stay anywhere else.

If I could give a negative rating for customer service I would. I booked this hotel to take my mum for a 50th birthday treat. We were due to go in April but unfortunately we couldn't go due to the pandemic. I have emailed several times since then requesting a refund - the majority of emails were ignored but on the odd occasion I did get a response it was to say they were waiting for a management decision regarding this. I can't believe after 6 months the management have still not made a decision! When we are able to travel again and can visit New York I certainly will not book this hotel.

Great cocktails and fish taco appetizer. Lovely view, great service. We would've stayed longer but had dinner reservations elsware. We'll definitely return sometime.

What a great place to spend a Saturday afternoon, above all the noise of the street. Overpriced drinks and crowded rooftop don’t diminish the atmosphere

I had a great time. The atmosphere was great and the ambiance was fantastic. It is a lovely place to take your wife, husband, date or just to sit back and relax. I would definitely recommend The Empire Hotel to anyone.

Truly shocking customer service. Don’t ever book here. Refund request constantly under review by ‘upper management’ even though they are closed during duration of intended stay. A company’s response during these times shows their true colours.

Never got to stay so have no comment on the hotel. However, this hotel have been evasive in offering a refund owing to the Covid outbreak. I feel really let down by their lack of response and would absolutely recommend against anyone taking a risk and booking a trip. My experience so far is that they don't care about refunding money and will do everything in their power to avoid a conversation. Incredibly poor from them

If anybody is looking for bargain deals for hotel rooms go to ʜᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴜʟʟʏ. ᴄᴏᴍ made a reservation for a hotel on there and they had the lowest rates any where!

“Refund is waiting for upper management review” and has been that way for a month and a half. What a scam, the entire hotel is closed and I cannot receive a refund. After this experience I would never stay there and advise everybody to be careful

Hotel is a must for Gossip Girl fans! I remember when we came here and I realised that it was Chuck Bass' hotel! Amazing hotel, love it.

Due to reasons outside of the hotels control (AKA Covid) we are unable to stay at The Empire Hotel. However, for reasons within their control, they have made receiving a refund extremely difficult. In fact, I still have not received said refund. I have been in communication with reservations since May. The hotel staff continually state that they will forward my request to "management" but I have yet to actually hear from them. I do understand that we are in unprecedented times. However, when a good or service is not provided, I do expect a refund and I expect better communication and support. I would give pause to book a future reservation with Empire if this is how they treat patrons during these difficult times.

Be very careful with this hotel. I had booked a room with a prepayment. Recently notified by the hotel on 6/20/2020 that my reservation could no longer be honored. I requested refund, and have since had difficultly getting refund or any answer from hotel management. I have escalated my complaint to VISA and NY State Attorney General asking for refund of purchase. I would strongly advice any traveler to be very careful of reservation deposit at this hotel. I am very dissatisfied with the recent service and lack of resolution by the hotel for my cancelled reservation scheduled for August 2020.

Can anyone tell me if this hotel is currently closed? I am from Australia and can not get through to them. I have booked to visit New York in June and this is clearly not going to happen as I can not even travel interstate here. I can not get though to the hotel to cancel the reservation it keeps going to the answering machine I have sent numerous emails and no response.could some one please advise thankyou.

Our guests enjoyed their stays at the Empire for our wedding. The hotel was convenient, clean, and well-suited to a large group block. The team was reasonably accommodating throughout the process, although we did encounter a few challenges in communication and misbookings by the reception and events staff.

Rooms are very small for the price point, but the location merits a premium.
