Crowne Plaza Albany - the Desmond Hotel, an IHG Hotel

Interesting hotel, reminiscent of a colonial village. Since becoming the Crowne Plaza Desmond the rooms and the facilities have been modernized. The modern look it a bit at odds with the traditional colonial village/town look, many of which aspects are still in existence. That being said it still remains a very nice and now functionally improved hotel.

Work luncheon. Beautiful atmosphere. My only problem was the lady taking my plate/food every sec.

Needed a quick sleep after a late night arriving flight. Room was large, nice beds. But.we could not get the temperature to fall below 70° all night long- too hot to sleep comfortably. Also, make sure to ask for a room away from the elevator- it is old and noisy. No breakfast, but the Starbucks is just down the road a minute.

Overall, it was excellent. This was my first stay for a business trip and found everything to be great

Room was acceptable but nothing special. Door to bathroom was misaligned and difficult to close. Clean enough. Lots of pot smokers on our floor. Hotel staff was accommodating.

Beautiful hotel with great customer service. The rooms are clean and bright. The courtyard is really fun and unique. You can see the airport from the parking lot, and they have a shuttle that will drive you within a certain radius. Unfortunately, the beds are ridiculously uncomfortable. I barely slept due to individual springs stabbing me. The ac unit never got to temperature, and the room was muggy and hot. We even had a room with the updated ac system. Definitely not as nice as other IHG hotels, but still good.

The Desmond has always been good to us over the years. They are our first choice when having to travel to the Albany airport. We find the atmosphere and amenities can't be beat. You aren't stuck in your room. You can wander the enormous property, sit by the fire and get a meal on site. They have been generous to us when our flights have had delays, allowing us a few extra hours in our room. I can't recommend enough! P. S. While I appreciate the improvements to the lobby, I feel the decor and finishes aren't complimentary to the rest of the history of the hotel. I was sad to see the cozy lobby vibes gone. At least the fireplace remains!

Food was good. Service was spotty. Soup and salad appetizers were brought out with the main meal.

It us a wonderful hotel.bold renovation removed almost all vestiges of the former Desmond Americana character. The restaurant however is a miss.too modern, poorly laid out. Scrimshaws was excellent.not so much Mr. D's.

The staff (Christina) are as wonderful as the actually hotel. I travel throughout the Northeast for work so I have had the opportunity to experience various 2-4 star hotels and the Desmond hits on all cylinders. Clean, updated, convenient, great staff. I will certainly come back again and look forward to another delightful stay!

Remodel is great. Loved the decorations for the holidays. Staff were very friendly and attentive.

Beds, comfortable! Musty, even in the 'non smoking' areas. No fridge in the room—I asked for one but it never showed up.just in case you plan to bring food to balance the bland offerings. WiFi bad; I had to tether most of time, when cell was good enough. Good Japanese restaurant nearby. It's worth visiting the Shaker settlement next to the airport, and the airport art gallery (even if you are not taking a plane) —it's great.

I haven't been here in many years and was at the hotel to attend an awards luncheon in one of the ballrooms. The facility appears recently renovated and looks great. Staff were friendly and the food was typical quality for an event.

Bathroom is poorly lit and designed. I hit my head on the towel shelf a few times. Overall clean but uninspiring. Customer service is friendly but did nothing to help facilitate a discount when they failed to honor the conference rate I signed up for, despite being “a valued Crowne Plaza member “. Restaurant was ok nothing special.

No fridge in rooms, hot water out of both taps, shower too hot to stand under, no ice machines on the floors.

We went to Albany to do some holiday shopping and spent a night at the Desmond. We have stayed there several times and we enjoyed each stay.

Staff was very professional, polite and very helpful. Lovely new look. Busy but rewarding stay.

We've stayed at The Desmond for various trips over the past 30 years and it is always very enjoyable.

I love this hotel. It has such character, very unique. Beds are comfy and the rooms are clean and new. This is a gorgeous hotel

Very nice place to go! Food was delicious. The place was spacious and clean. The staff was very professional. I'm glad I went for our Christmas party of 300+-.

The hotel is nice and clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. A couple of things out of their control we were awoken at 400 am by party goers just getting back. There was ants coming out of the sink.

This was a good experience for my first stay at a hotel! It was very comfortable and honestly didn't really feel like I had left home. I enjoyed the inner courtyards and the overall look and feel of it. Also, it is really close to places to eat.

I love it's proximity to the airport but so does everyone else. So it was packed all through the weekend.
I'd probably stay at downtown Albany next time. Less crowd

Told we could get food & service in courtyard, but found we couldn't. We had our little dog so my husband ate in the room with her while my dghtr, granddaughter & I went to restaurant. Otherwise things were great. Bathroom was immaculate.

Super nice workers. I felt incredibly welcomed from the moment I checked in. One of the best hotel gyms I’ve ever seen. Beds are super comfy. The pillows are nice and fluffy, not like those flat feather pillows at other “nice” hotels.

Stayed there for a conference and other than the fire alarm going off at 0400 it was a nice venue. Staff very friendly and accommodating.

Very nice large clean hotel with plenty of space for events and chill time. Love how you feel outside while being inside colonial type feeling. Big gym with cross training type equipment and heavy dumbbells up to 50lbs. Location is good across the street from a few restaurants and local eats.

Wonderful place, lovely charm, efficient staff. Outstanding food. Great place to hold a meeting/conference large or small.

I'm writing this review as I'm incredibly disappointed with my service at the hotel.

I will be getting married in October and was told that 20 rooms would be blocked out for my wedding and 2 suites were available on the night before the wedding so that the party may get ready morning of the wedding. Amanda Stankavich, the wedding coordinator gave me a tour of the hotel and assured me that the rooms were available and would be reserved.

I was then notified a week later that the hotel over booked their capacity for both Thursday and Friday and not only would my room block not be an option, but the suites that were promised and "reserved" for me were not available as well.

If you're planning a wedding or big event at this hotel, I would be wary of the possibility of a cancelation on the hotel's end.

Nicely restored property. Lively indoor courtyard with koi pond. Pet friendly with great outside dog area.

My son had his wedding here on July 10 th I cannot express how everything was handled from the time we arrived to the time we left. I would like to mention jack Roddy and rachard from mister da restaurant he was outstanding and really worked hard at making everything run smooth. Every staff person was pleasant and repectful. Stay was good. Food was excellent. FRONT DESK WAS LOST. Checked in for a conference in Late August of 2021. Our entire Association had a package price that included meals. When I checked in front desk clerk " Dave" was arrogant and very un- friendly. It was obvious he saw there was an issue with the package amount but decided to push it through stating they would fix it later. Upon check out on Thursday we had to spend an hour an a half fixing his original error. Finally management did get involved and corrected the issue.

This was a great experience! I’m very impressed with this entire place! They really have a beautiful interior design meant to look like you’re outside and it’s absolutely stunning!

Really nice place with an inside garden. The room is very clean and with towels. Breakfast is included in the price. Very nice place!

Lobby had a funny smell to it. Otherwise it was fine but can't they spray the place down with fabreeze or something?

My stay at The Desmond was comfortable, with their service being quick and helpful. The hotel itself is very beautiful with a courtyard filled with trees and decorations. It is very close to the airport and also to restaurants and a few cafes. Overall, I would recommend The Desmond Hotel.

Ideal locale and great value. Friendly staff. Memorable atriums designed like courtyards with faux façades and gurgling fountains. The meeting rooms are of varying sizes and accommodations. Strong wi-fi and ample parking out front. No guest rooms were reviewed. On July 18th, 2021 the Libertarian Party of New York held a meeting at this location.

Very nice hotel, beautiful and spacious gym, my favorite part is the gym, nice restaurant, good discounts for employees as well, totally recommended

I was there for our annual Saab Owners Convention and was very pleased with the facility during our stay. The staff was very accommodating, the food that was served at our dinner meals was very good. I would be happy to recommend the hotel.

We held our Libertarian State Committee meeting here in July 2021. Just a few days before the meeting, our whole block of rooms was unexpectedly switched to the hotel across the street. The communication of the move was less than stellar - I personally received an email confirmation that I was still booked the day prior. Our event rooms were still booked, so we ended up having to traipse back and forth from the other hotel. The venue was okay, a bit outdated. The lobby is beautiful. All in all, a rather average experience.

I am a flight attendant and I got in late last night with my crew after a flight. I had a bit of a room issue, and when I called the front desk I spoke with Tim. He was so considerate and was very apologetic. He quickly and efficiently moved me to another room, and to my surprise I got a kind note apologizing again for the situation. Tim is very professional, quick, and kind. His customer service is amazing, he needs a raise!:) I got a voucher for breakfast and the host and server were delightful as well. Food was sooo good and my stay was 10/10, I hope I have overnights here more often! Thank you Tim and Crowne Plaza!

Absolutely wonderful, from check in to the bar and the stay, park and fly experience. It was all top notch and everyone was so nice!

Very clean and friendly staff. Freshly remodeled lobby and rooms look great and are extremely comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

We took the Executive Suite, with an upstairs sleeping area (and full bath), and downstairs living area, private courtyard outdoors and wet bar. The property is lovely, and well maintained, including pool and workout room with updated equipment. Front desk staff are professional, attentive and dedicated. You will enjoy your stay here.

We came for waterfalls and Druthers (macaroni and cheese). It’s nice clean renovated room but no refrigerator. Elevator is old but still good. You will get a nice complimentary breakfast if you are platinum IHG member. Best breakfast we ever ate.
We will come again.

Comfy bed, clean room, great restaurant. Only challenge pillows were super thick and firm. Also need better signage on how to get to lobby.

Wow! Beyond what anyone would expect! From the shuttle to the restaurant to the front desk. Every single employee was beyond accommodating, professional and amazing. This is the best hotel ever!

Worst hotel experience ever. BEWARE: someone called the hotel and got them to charge their entire room to MY credit card I never reserved! The woman in the billing department didn't see anything wrong with charging me for someone else's room illegally and even hung up on me! I will tell everyone I know to never stay in this hotel!

As for the room I actually reserved and paid for - there was no mini fridge, no microwave, no basic features that even the cheapest room at the dirtiest motel offers and yet you pay a premium room price. We specifically picked this hotel for the pool for our son's birthday and called to verify it was open and they said it was. We drive hours there only to be told it was closed, the birthday boy cried so hard. Thanks for an awful stay Desmond Hotel!

The fact that a once beautiful and unique hotel has been taken over by a corporation that strives on uniformity is sickening, R. I. P Desmond.

The hotel is nice and has a restaurant conveniently located on site. I was shocked to see such a nice hotel with a small pool. Maybe it's for safety reasons.
