Goochland Drive-In Theater

A true nuisance when i'm just trying to get home. The place does not seem to respect us Cannabis growing locals either. I been here since 2000 and can tell you this is a popular Cannabis growing area has been for a long time.

The people that own this place not only won't let you bring a cooler with some good craft beer which they don't sell by the way. The place won't let you bring some good home grown Cannabis either. The reason they say is they make there money off those sales. That makes no sense they don't sell either. The Mahoning drive in is cool with Beer and Bud. A true American drive in. I see at Goochland they try to say you can't even Vape. I find this quite odd especially since i Vaporize a life saving medication which i can legally use anywhere. The last thing i wan't while trying to inhale my Asthma tincture is someone disrupting me which could cause death. I hope these people at least take the time to learn about medical vapor before they cause serious injury or death due to there lack of knowledge of medical inhalants.

We were so excited to come see the Eras Tour movie here, but this drive-in unfortunately does not communicate clearly on their tickets or website about shows. The website is incredibly outdated, difficult to find information, and inaccessible. Tickets for shows display that the show begins at 5: 15 and you should be there at 4: 15. However, if you scroll through multiple website pages it shows that shows do not begin until around 7: 45pm. Based on our tickets, we arrived at 4: 15pm. In front of us, a woman with multiple kids and an infant was upset due to the theatres lack of correct information. She had to leave. We drove an hour to get there and then an hour home because we also had to leave due to health reasons.

We really did want to love this drive in so much and we were so excited. Extremely disappointing that lack of communication and clarity ruined this experience for us.

A tip for the owners: Please prioritize fixing your website and making it more clear and accessible. Posting on Facebook is NOT equivalent to maintaining your business website.

Edit 11/2023: Incredible customer service! Someone reached out to me after writing my initial review and offered new tickets and food on them! Unfortunately, we weren’t able to go but GDT gave us a full refund and were so kind and responsive to work with. We will be trying again in the future for sure!

Love this theatre and experience. Food and drinks are priced to go and it’s nice to enjoy a movie outside!

I had a great time watching the Taylor Swift Eras Tour! They had a cutout of her that people could take pictures with!

This is a special place. The staff is amazing, kind, and helpful. Food is priced just right and delicious. Also it is extremely kid friendly.

This is very reminiscent of drive in theaters when I was a little kid in the 1970's. The staff is excellent, doing everything they can so everyone has a good experience. One bit of advice: if you're in anyway concerned about having a perfect cinematic experience, DON'T GO HERE! This place is about nostalgia and community. Only good natured folks who love being around others should go here. All the "Karens" and "Kyles" can go to Regal Cinemas.

Second time was a BLAST.from the past! This is the perfect place to experience the great American Drive-In experience!

Opening weekend did not disappoint! I love this drive in. Very diverse, food prices went up a bit. They have 2 screens now with double features on both. Staff consists of your high school kids on weekends. Must say, they have a great attitude when communicating. They will help you jump start your car if needed and bathrooms are clean and stocked. Hot cocoa when its cold out and frozen treats in the summer. Lots of people this past weekend. This will be a staple this spring and summer for my go to movies. Not to mention, you have an amazing view of the stars at night. Love love LOVE this drive for their people, quality of shows, and efficiency. If you haven't gone, please go at least once for the experience! - UPDATE: Their picnic tables have been removed. Instead they added large Tic Tac Toe games along with cornhole tables. The children's playground still stands strong. You can order your food through a kiosk and pay there. The kiosk provides a receipt that you take to the food stand and pick up

This is one of my happy places in this world. My wife and I go every chance we get. Good solid quality time with family and the rest of the world. We love having you guys close to home.

My first time at the Goochland Drive-In Theater was this past weekend and my boyfriend and I really enjoyed it! The property is managed really well, the snacks/drinks are cheap, and there are a ton of activities that kids and adults can enjoy like a playground, cornhole and photobooth. Just be aware if you have a large SUV or a roof rack on top of your car they will make you park on the side of the movie screen or in the back of the parking lot, even if you arrive early before everyone else.

Prices to watch the movie are very good.the food is a little expensive it cost us over 24.00 for 4 hot dogs and 4 drink wish they had sweet tea or pizza slices cause most the stuff couldn't eat it would be awesome but we will go back again we did enjoy the movie

I want to thank Goochland Drive-In's courteous, professional, patient and helpful staff. After an extremely pleasant evening, my fairly new hybrid suffered some sort of a breakdown. I was quite flustered and had no idea what the problem was. Your friendly and patient staff stayed with me, worked the problem and made repeated attempts to revive the car until it was up and running, able to get us home safely. We were the last car to leave the lot and your staff's willingness to stay late and take care of a guest and his daughter are greatly appreciated!
You get my hands-down vote for the very best theater experience in the entire Central Virginia area. Thank you!

This review is overdue. I took my family to see a movie a few months ago and forgot to turn the fan off inside my truck. My battery died and my ECM was out of commission when jump started. The owner (I believe John) stayed with my family and I helping us troubleshoot until 1am. I look forward to taking my family back and plan to bring a FM radio next time.

This facility is Americana at its finest.

You have 3 options for viewing one of 2 movies. You can leave your car and sit on blankets or chairs that you bring on a lush, manicured lawn with in-ground speakers. Or you can remain in your car pointed at 1 of the 2 outdoor screens.

You are greeted by extremely pleasant ushers who check your online ticket, then point you to the proper location.

A Casey Casum's America's Top 40 from 1980 something will be playing in the background. There's an OCIA approved children's area with see-saws, monkey bars, etc right in front of the snack bar. The snack bar is typical hotdogs, hamburgers, fries, etc, and tastes surprisingly better than expected without price gouging. It is open until the end of the first intermission.

Next to the snack bar is an ice cream stand.

The staff are young adults for the most part. To be completely honest, their manners and professionalism are beyond their years.

Who I believe to be the owner does a walk thru asking random patrons if they need anything.

You are wished a good night when leaving.

At the end of each movie, you are invited to use jumper cables if your car battery has died during the movie.

It is perfect for small children and families. We have been several times, and we live an hour away. It has always been a wonderful, wonderful experience.

Very nice concept! Had not been there in over 10 years, so was pleasantly surprised to see they have 2 "rooms", and that you have to pre-purchase online, which eliminates having to be turned back if the place is full. That was the case back then, and we live about an hour away, so you can imagine. Food did not look so great, but when we bit into it, it was delicious! The burgers are real beef, as advertised, so are the hot dogs. We had just about everything on the menu (hot food I should specify), except for popcorn and it was all good, although very small, which I guess is the reason behind the lower prices, compared to other movie theaters. Will definitely go again. Nice place to bring the entire family: at $27 per car with up to 7 people, a double feature at that, and the a ability to walk around at will without bothering others, sit in or out of your car, make this place a no brainer for great times on a budget!

This was my family’s first time here it was great, The owner was nice. Please get there early the lines are long. I’m giving 4 stars because they don’t have alcohol. It would be nice to enjoy a movie sippin overall a GREAT EXPERIENCE I would definitely come back!

This was so enjoyable and the kids had a ball on the playground. It made the wait worthwhile. The only thing is not being able to run the vehicle. I have a 2023 suv and it cuts off to save battery after 15 min. We had to keep either starting it or pressing the start/stop. The food is cheap and pretty good. Overall 10/10 will try again. I gave it 4 stars b/c of the battery thing. I didnt have a Toyota i had 2 of my trucks a wagoneer and a suburban. Another thing that i loved was there was a really nice guy that walked around and checked on everyone.

Everything here is exemplary! First off, the nostalgia is strong here, from the commercials from the 70s to Casey Kasem Top 40. It's one of the only places you feel secure to let your kids roam. Ironically, getting there early when the gates open is a great opportunity to keep kids off their "screens" and to actually play. The atmosphere feels like you stepped into a time machine, in the best way. They have plenty of food options and have perfected their operations. The staff is exemplary.making sure all rules are adhered to, that everyone is happy (literally going to each car and asking), all while being very courteous. They even offer to jumpstart your car IF your battery dies. Go for the experience even if you don't like the movie!

This place is incredible. Watching a movie outside is such a wonderful experience. We had been to the main screen several times which is great in its own right. Then this time we went to the "Grove" where you bring folding chairs and sit on the lawn and that was even better! Everyone is so friendly and they really do put on a great show.

Theater is awesome, facilities top notch, popcorn poor quality and cold, prices okay for a venue like this, needs to offer coffee and or hot chocolate. Great way to experience the outdoors.
