Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup

Barry is a wonderful plumber and a genuinely good person. He worked so hard getting our drains cleaned after another company told us there were no cut-offs (and there were 2). Highly recommend and will request him again should we have any other plumbing issues.

Took them 3 different times and $1200 later they finally fixed my shower leak. First guy cut into dry wall did a quick check said no leak. Second guy said leak was from bathroom sink $300 and “fixed” that. Finally 3rd guy was a masters plumber and actually checked and found leak in shower. Now I have to deal with replacing drywall. Maybe try a different place.

I am very disappointed with the service I received. Primarily because my problem wasn’t resolved or addressed correctly, but the Roto Rooter employee named Garry insisted I have to pay the full amount regardless. Even though he hasn’t manage to open the clogged shower drain. I must say have never encountered in my adult life this kind of unconsidered company and customer relationship. I was expecting to pay at least half the amount, but he said he has made two trips and has tried to help me. He has said to me that his wage is only $60 out of the $357 and he kept insisting I should pay the whole amount.

All in all this kind arrangement never fair to me & I really hope another customer won’t get ripped off as I was. As a matter of business and professional common practice routine this should have not happened. I was attempting to talk to his manager, but he has left abruptly without giving me a reasonable feedback.
In a nutshell, I was very disappointed and plan to write a complaint letter to the company’s management or city licensing governing body.

We had a great experience with Ronnie and James through Roto-Rooter. They were amazing with communication, time management, and explanations about the work to be done. The quote remained the same throughout the entirety of the job. They were both respectful and professional and kept us in the loop through our entire process. 10/10 would recommended and we would definitely use them again.

The tech was very nice and answered all my questions. He checked the main drain outside and didn’t see any issues. I decided to go with installing new toilets. He also told me the best things to use for keeping the water from calcifiying (sp?) in the toilet.

We knew the issue with our sink was a matter of needing to remove our disposal, put plumbers putty below it, and screw it back in. However, we were told we had to be charged for the full installation of a new disposal. $570 later, we felt ridiculously overcharged. The plumber who came was very nice and did a great job, but if you need something small done, post on thumbtack instead. This company has no way to charge for something not in their flipbook.

The communication from the dispatch person was excellent. We were given constant updates as to the ETA for our service. I was able to get in touch with the dispatch very easily too. No long wait behind an automated message system.

Greg arrived first and provided outstanding service in trying to help locate the problem. He was very patient and careful within my new house and new carpets. He quickly called in additional help and a camera scan as soon as he recognized that it was not a simple fix so that I would not experience any further delays.

Daniel arrived within 20 minutes of the call to take a camera to the pipes. Daniel was excellent in explaining the process and then locating the clog in the pipe. He stayed in constant contact with me to assure me that they were on it and he brought in an excavation team to dig to the pipe. This went a long way towards reducing my anxiety.

Jason and Cliff arrived to dig into the ground and find the clogged pipe. They were also able to locate the missing outlet valve which was deeply buried under the landscaping and gravel. With the valve exposed, they were able to unblock the pipe and solve the problem. They were professional, patient and very kind and empathetic.

The entire staff at Rotor-Rooter in this area (San Marcos- Austin- and north Austin) were all professional, patient, empathetic, excellent communicators, caring of my property and home, and worked their butts off to help me get the plumbing operational. Why would you call anyone else?

I highly recommend calling Rotor-Rooter for any emergency plumbing issues. The help came fast and I felt confident that I had the best, most knowledgeable team. My anxiety was greatly reduced by their care and concern for my plumbing and their expertise. They are truly experts at what they do. Well worth their weight in gold!

Oscar did a first rate job tracing some water lines -not owned by the city-so that the folks coming to install a gate and fence did not damage them. They have experience and tools to do the job right. Oscar was a first rate engineer with a world of experience. Highly recommended.

Replaced failing shower valve/cartridge, added lubricant and cleaned drain at no extra charge. A little expensive but the service was excellent.

They were prompt and courteous and professional, my only issue is the cost, I got charged over 200 dollars for someone to auger my toilet, maybe because it was on a weekend or something but for the work done I didn’t think it was reasonable at all but I didn’t know any better and so that’s just the way it goes.

Larry came out after I had some construction dust in my burners. He performed a flush and cleaned the burners, then checked the valve in the attic. Everything is fixed good as new. Took around 3 + hours because of the troubleshooting, but he kept trying and finally figured it out.

PROPERTY OWNERS BEWARE, The first hour of service regardless of whether it is a simple fix or something more complex the minimum invoice starts at $450. I had a loose valve under my sink, that was repaired by MacLinn plumbing soon after refusing to do business with Roto-Rooter for $180, Roto Rooter's invoice for the same repair was $515, mainly attributed to the fact that the initial hour of service is billed at the rate of $450/hr. When I refused the services they asked me to pay a $69 service call fee, I refused to pay because of their lack of transparency and was told a $69 lien will be placed on my $2.5m property. Oscar did a great job and only took him half an hour. Toilet was leaking from toilet base, and he found the problem and fixed it in no time. He also took the time to explain and show me what caused the problem. Two thumbs up for the awesome job he did!

We had an issue where our clean out was clogged after we moved out for a prolonged period of time during a renovation. During the site visit, the tech quickly looked at the layout of the system, presented our service options, and handled the problem. He was kind and professional and mentioned that the service itself (a cleaning) was warrantied which surprised me.

I believe you charge way over what the labor charge should be. Your service person was excellent, and all of the above comments are true for him. He charges whatever you say and for just a very small amount of time to repair, you are really too expensive. Tommie Jean Boswell

My toilet was stopped up by a tub drain strainer. The plumber was able to get it out quickly and gave me a discount on the standard service charge because it didn’t take him very long. I will use Roto Rooter again when a plumber is needed.

Called last night about 10 PM for a plugged sewer line. Answering service said they had someone on call. They called back the wrong number to say they had nobody available until morning. The next morning they were responsive. Had someone there about 9: 00 AM. Cleared the drain pronto. Then sent a camera person to check for future trouble. Cost roughly doubled in 10 years since last time this happened. But worth the cost to get it done and checked out.

All of my plumbing was backed up and I could not reach the clog with a standard snake. I gave up and called Roto Rooter at 5pm and the job was complete and cleaned up by 7pm. The plumber was polite and friendly, didn't talk down to me (I'm a woman), and masked up without being asked. Also, the final cost was $75 less than the initial quote. I would absolutely call them again.

I woke up to a clogged kitchen sink on a Saturday morning. Tried to unclog it myself, but the problem was a little bigger than I anticipated. I sucked it up and decided to hire someone. Roto Rooter gave me guaranteed service within 2 hours of my call.

And what great service it was! They sent 2 guys at separate intervals - the remediation guy (Ernie) first, then Isaiah (drain tech) a while later. Very knowledgeable, professional, and personable. The price was quite reasonable given 2 professionals came over separately on a Saturday, without me having made an appointment. 5 stars for Roto Rooter!

The two servicemen who came to my home were both very professional. They clearly explained what likely was the problem and what the first and easiest method to quickly confirm the issue and remedy it. I have not had any problems since they resolved the issue. I was very pleased with their knowledge and willingness to answer all my questions.

My water softener had quit working and was leaking so I wanted it removed. I called today and they were able to have someone here today. As it was being disconnected two of the hoses just broke! If I had had to wait until later in the week I might have been in deep water! No pun intended!

I will start by saying, today, 6/14/22, the customer service with Jose was great. He explained in detail and was knowledgeable about the whole situation that we are facing. He gave options for us to move forward. However, my original appointment was for 6/13/22. A whole day and finances wasted. I had to make arrangements for a fill-in for students that I homeschool, arrange a babysitter for infant grandchild. All time and funds wasted. Had to bring all the kids with me to the appointment on 6/14/22.
I'm aware of COVID & workers are few but Companies should try and understand that we are all dealing the best that we can and he a little more understanding.
Overall, I am very satisfied with today's appointment.

They scheduled an appointment within 2 hours of when I called, same day. Technicians were polite and knowledgeable about grinder pumps. Cleaned up after themselves. Difficult to compare price.

The system failed after three days. Greg was back two hours after I called. He worked all day to track down the electrical problem. Jesus and Jose came that evening, and again this morning. It’s fixed. The 6-month warranty covered it all. Technicians were all professional and pleasant.

Jose and Jesus were quite the team! They identified the issue fast and communicated said issue and it’s resolution very clearly. They were able to repair right away and the entire visit was completed within a few hours. Incredible service with an experienced team- I highly recommend. Thanks y’all!

I was super annoyed that I couldn’t get a stubborn toilet clog fixed myself. Turns out my puppy dropped a tennis ball down the toilet and Alexis was creative enough to use a shop vac to get it out. We had them come out to fix 1 toilet (basically change the wax ring) and install another. When you call they will not even give you a base price for toilet installation. Yet, when they arrive they have a printed sheet for that has basic service. So you basically pay $69 service fee to see that. Well let me save you the $69 and tell you it is a ripoff to pay $550 for a toilet installation. They wanted $1100 for two toilet installs and we supplied the toilets. Lol. Um no. Other companies will come out and install them for $225. The guys that came out were nice, but cannot and will not support this company any more. Price gouging at its best.

Update (March 2022) :

We had a faulty gas shut off valve on our stove and we called Roto Rooter since they were awesome last time. Guess who shows up? Jose and Jesus! They remembered us and the work we had done last year due to the storm. They identified the issue, fixed it, turned on our water heaters, and even answered a non related question I had about a pot filler water line. These guys are awesome and we will definitely be calling them for future needs. Also, these guys are some of the friendliest around!

First Review (March 2021) :
Jose and Jesus came out to fix a pipe thar burst after the storm. They identified the pipe with pinpoint accuracy behind a brick wall and only had to cut a small portion to fix it. We were quoted $8K-$10K by another company and they were able to fix it for $1,400! These guys were professional, nice, and excellent at their job! We will never use another company as these guys are our go-to from now on. Thank you so much!

While other places tell you they are open 24/7, they are not. They are a scam. Roto Rooter really is. We had to call on a Sunday and they were there within 1.5 hrs. Professional, friendly, timely, and clean. They tell you what it will cost up front. Great service!

This team had trainees with them along with professionals training them. I work at a Wafer Fab, where excellence of our product is mandatory. We used to have specialized trainers. Now we have new ppl training new ppl, and it takes it’s toll leaving large areas unorganized resulting in a loss millions of dollars of scrap due misprocessing of the wrong material AND driving us older professionals crazy! So I am happy to see your company is still striving for excellence!

The plumber comes out to fix a leak and we found the fauctet needed to be replaced, so they don't have any on the truck he is going to home depot to get the faucet. He comes back installs the faucet. No complaint on the installation. But then he charges me $339 for a faucet that cost $200 at home depot. A terrible rip off considering they probably even paid a conctractors lower price for it. NEVER again.they are simply a rip off.

No issues scheduling and having someone come out the same day. Our technician, Forrest was extremely professional and knowledgeable. He explained every possible scenario and gave his insight as to why the problem was occurring. Grateful it was him who came to help diagnose our plumbing issue.

I called roto rooter and they came out that day. Two men were very nice and gave me an estimate right away. They unclogged the sink and fixed the problem. I wouldn’t hesitate to call them again. They were very professional with the work they did.

Oh my gosh I had lost all hope. My sewer line started getting clogged last weekend so I bought a closet auger then had to rent a 75 foot electric one from Home Depot which cleaned the line and worked for about a week. I was so depressed when it got clogged again this weekend. I called Roto Rooter and Oscar’s team was here in about an hour. He cleaned the line and used a camera to discover that my pipe is cracked! Luckily I was approved for credit and a new team will be coming out today to fix the crack! Oscar gave me a huge discount and he was so sweet to my family and my dog too. I will only call Oscar and Roto Rooter if I ever need plumbing help again and being that I live on clay, I’m sure I will need them again. Thank you Oscar! I’m so glad I met you today!

Greg and Rudy did a really great job! Thanks so much for your help with my leaking pipe. They checked to make sure it wasnt another issue and made the smallest possible hole in my wall when checking out the damage to help make sure I didnt have an expensive repair later.

I requested camera service to see if we had plumbing issues because of repeated toilet backing up into the shower. Even though we did not find an exact problem, he did a thorough job to see where we did not have a problem. He found some bellies in the plumbing from the house to the street which we chose not to fix. All in all, I was pleased with the service.

**BEWARE**I called Roto-Rooter back on July 3rd 2021 since my water backed up into my house and thought it was a simple fix and my toilet needed to be unclogged. They said they would send out a serviceman and instead got a call from a salesperson named Chad Jones. He came over and convinced me to file a claim on my insurance and they would pay for everything including the mitigation and the reconstruction of my house. I trusted him and went ahead and filed the claim. I am not receiving emails from Julia Maiers from Roto-Rooter that I still owe them $2.400 that the insurance did not pay. I called my insurance and spoke with my adjuster and he stated that they did speak with Amy and they both settled to a lesser amount and now they want to charge me the difference. This company is definitely a SCAM and said they would send me to collections if not paid. This is very bad customer service and do not recommend this company to anyone. I will not ever use them again!

Larry was an excellent technician and solved all of the issues. We also had a great time chatting and he shared some helpful knowledge with me during the process of fixing the items!

Fantastic service! We got an alert about a possible leak from City of Austin, but couldn't find any evidence of a leak, so called Roto-Rooter. Jesus and Jose (and a couple trainees) were at the house within hours, and were able to not only chase down the leak (sprinkler system) but discovered a faulty pressure regulator that was causing super weak pressure into the house! We thought our home was just built with weak pressure or our part of the neighborhood just had weak pressure - but no! They replaced the regulator with stock on hand and did it super quickly! This morning we had a leak and always had weak pressure inside, now we are water-tight and have fantastic pressure in the house! Professional, courteous, skilled, and competent - everything I look for and refer to buddies in a service like this! Thank you Jose and Jesus! (And Roto-Rooter!)

Mixed feelings: we started Saturday trying to get someone to come to the condo, but once Jesus, Jose and Greg arrived Monday afternoon the clogged sewer line was quickly opened. I can’t say enough about the trio, and they followed up by asking a technician to stop by and check for any possible leaks; there were none.

Jose and Jesus with their trainees they were super informative very professional made quick work of a job I thought was going to be bad. Would definitely recommend these guys to any of my friends and family.

I just purchased my first home and Roto Rooter was able to turn an incredibly overwhelming experience into a manageable one. I called Roto -rooter because the water pressure valve broke and it took 4 hours to show up and when they show I showed the issue to the Plummer
and he was fast to said it would cost me $950.00 to dig the hole which I replied no way, I said I would gladly pay $300.00 he replied no that was the set up fee for digging holes
I said I can do that in less than 5 minutes very small opening and I refused serviced I did paid $69.99 for the called, I when to Hardware store I spent $96.00 on all material dig the hole in less that 5 minutes and I fixed the issue

The salesman was only interested in billing my insurance company as much as he could for mitigation and Roto-Rooter didn't even offer restoration repair services or a plumber and I only actually called them for a plumber.

The 4-hour “window” was absurd. Then, when I asked for a more defined window, they did come faster. BUT, despite that I told them it could be a disposal replacement, I was stuck waiting for the plumber after he’d been there a long time, to go shop for a disposal (I had asked for them to bring one). Stuck waiting. Then, after he put in the disposal, he found he did not have the cord he needed, so he again went shopping while I waited. All this for what should have been at most an hour of work - I was essentially held prisoner (mess in kitchen) for about 4 hours. Then, when the disposal was installed, it leaked, so he had to call someone to find out it was a gasket. I have no idea if it is working properly. I was doing this for a seriously ill relative (in between hospital visits). I don’t even live there, yet I was stuck there for 4 hours for this ordeal. And, when I told the plumber it wasn’t all his fault, it was the company at fault, and I thanked “Peter” (on his shirt), he told me that’s not even his name. They can’t even provide a shirt with the correct name. A real horror story. I was exhausted - again, in between hospital visits for the sick property owner. Never, ever hire Roto Rooter. Never, ever. Worst experience ever. Making the customer wait for 2 shopping trips is ridiculous. OH, and he quoted me $350 at the outset for a replacement - then charged me almost $600, saying the $350 was labor only. OH MY GOD. What a horrible company (again, it’s not the plumber at fault - he works for a horrible company).

Very professional team. They helped to fix plumbing issues and followed thru with also keeping safety masks and protective equipment on during entire time while working on my property. Woke up to a kitchen sink that wouldn't drain at all, spent an entire Friday failing to get it flowing myself. Called Roto Rooter and had two techs at my door in just under an hour, Jonathan and Logan. Nice folks and they got it done fast. Quick and easy, and on a Friday at 5pm too.
