Very well located next to central park, rooms very small just for sleeping, room service only after the fourth day, gym included in accommodation, excellent value for money, there is a video on YouTube showing a little more

Very affordable and in a great location, right by the Central Park! Rooms are sufficiently spacious, have its own mini freezer and safe. Bathrooms are clean and elevators are fast. You can also use their gym. Management is very courteous and will try his best to accommodate you nicely (special mention to Mr. Marin's very affable and professional persona). You can have two keycards if staying in two, don't forget to ask if you want more freedom of movement. The only downside is the luggage storing man, a rude man that doesn't abide by YMCA's cordiality standards, but don't let him ruin your experience.

In all seriousness, this is excellent value for money.

The room is simple, for my part, it is more than enough to sleep in.
The only negative point, in my opinion, is the enthusiasm and friendliness of certain members of the staff which leaves something to be desired.
This does not prevent the fact that I recommend this establishment and that I would return if necessary.

We stayed 6 nights with my partner. The best: the location, the hotel is very close to a subway with various combinations, and very close to Time Square. The worst: we had a room with bunk beds, and the mattress on top was stained, there is a boiler that cannot be regulated and the shared bathrooms tend to get dirty quickly.
Given the prices of hotels in NYC, this is the cheapest, don't expect luxury, it's just to get to bathe, sleep and rest.

A great place for a trip to New York. The rental price is adequate to the quality of the rooms, and most importantly, the location in Manhattan. Accommodation conditions are spartan, but you don't need anything else to explore NYC. Central Park is approximately 100 m from the hostel. The metro station is about 400 m away. Everything is close to here. I recommend this location despite the harsh conditions.

Dirty, old, unhygienic. Rooms like prison cells. It could be very dangerous when there is a fire.

Stay away! Stay save! This is a strong warning for avoid a lot of hassle! Enjoy New York and don't destroy your stay and with a check-in in this terrible place.

Never in my life I met so unfriendly and even aggresive receptionsts. Its smelly, dirty and unhygienic. Avoid at all costs. Its a desaster for NYC. They don't provide not even normal tap water. The bathrooms are extremly dirty. No customer service. They don't answer on mails.

The YMCA Westside is charging you amounts on your creditcards for some nights more after check-out! The christians take you money away! Don't trust them when they offer you a refund and say we will pay back the nights when you check-out earlier. Its refundable. No problem. I haven't received a cent back.

I only stayed for two days and I liked it, just the cleanliness of the bathroom left something to be desired but as I left in the morning and returned at night, I used it very little.

Great value for money when you are aware that there is nothing more than a small room with a bed (you hardly stay there except to sleep).

Very good location not far from Times Square and 25 meters from Central Park. Metro/bus connection also great

The beds grind. However it's amazing. The gym is good, the pool is good. It was nice staying here.

I have already stayed at a lot of hostels worldwide but this one is the worst I´ve ever been. I stayed at a private room with shared bathroom. My room was really dirty, with a lot of dust and hair at the floor. The shower cabins was really disgusting, I couldn't take a shower longer than 30 seconds because I couldnt managed to stay at that place for more than that. I am giving 2 stars only for the fact that the location is great. I had to pay more and switch for another hotel nearby because YMCA was very unconfortable and disgusting.

Bare bones Y. Need to share bathroom…but the location is great and as a solo woman traveler, I feel safe here. AC in summer and a TV. Clean and you can use their pool which is great.

Not bad for a 1 star hotel, definitely good for young people traveling in groups to NY, 2 things btw:
1. The beds should not be on wheels or if they are they should have breaks. They are very unstable on just wheels.
2. Room doors should have weather stripping for sound insulation. Lots of noise from the corridor in the shared spaces come into private rooms.

I stayed for 8 days and the room was not cleaned, the TV did not work, there were cockroaches in the room, reception staff are not cordial, it is expensive for what it offers, I paid in cash and it came out 100 dollars more expensive than via credit card.

Good for the price. The bathroom weren’t the cleanest and the pool required a swimming cap. Other than that it was good.

Affordable membership. Super friendly and helpful staff. The gym facilities are not large or fancy, but seldom crowded and equipment is well taken care of and clean.

A great location for solo travellers to stay. I had a private room with semi private bathroom. The bed wasn't overly great, but the location is worth it. Plus this hostel has an amazing gym, so that is what attracted me to stay here.

This was the worst hotel I’ve ever been. First of all they clean your room every four days, then the bathrooms are disgusting because they have a lot of cockroaches. And the guy in the reception was very rude to us when we asked him something, he treated us as we were dumb. I don't recommend it.

Very fair price. Quite clean for the amount of people staying here. Old A/C but doing its work. I had a single room with shared bath (3 showers for all man on one floor - tip: larger shower-rooms on gym 3rd floor) and got a side view if central park for something like 60 bucks. So I say go if you are on a tight budget!

Edit: none of the 8 days they came to do housekeeping. We asked the lobby staff twice and even had to go through the humiliating situation of asking for toilet paper because there was simply nothing left.
The price we paid involved housekeeping and those basic amenities (toilet paper, I'm not asking for something from another planet) being covered. Tremendously disappointed in this place.

My partner and I are currently staying here. We have been here for 5 nights and are tremendously disappointed in the service.
First of all, the rooms are dirty. We found hair upon entering and dust all over the floors, as if they had not cleaned before we checked in.
On top of this, they don't do house-keeping. We have stayed five nights and not a single day have they come in to clean or throw out the garbage. We had to dispose of our garbage ourselves. They are supposed to clean up on the fourth day of your stay, but here we are already on the fifth day and they haven't done anything.
In addition, the staff has a disinterested and rude attitude, which does not contribute to the resolution of problems.
I understand that the price is extremely cheap (even the cheapest in Manhattan), so I don't ask for more than a place to sleep and bathe. Now, there are basic hygienic conditions that must be met: finding a squashed moth on the wall, a squashed fly on the floor, an earing that is not mine on the bed and hair all over the floor does not meet my basic standards.
I'm really thankful that my plans include to spend the whole day outside this place, because being in my room literally grosses me out.
I think that YMCA needs to understand that cheap means basic, not deficient. Specially when it comes to something as important as hygiene.
