Ukrainian East Village Restaurant

Great place for some authentic Ukrainian/Eastern European cuisine. The Ukrainian borscht and pickled herring were both delicious.

The food was ok. Nothing special.
What I personally didn’t like about service that they bring you a check for one price but than charge you more (as I understand 20% tip) without telling or asking you.

Wow! I’ve never been treated as such a peace of garbage in my life. Took my mom for lunch there today and was waiting to be seated for 30 minutes, we were the only ones waiting and the restaurant was less than half full.
A lady with short red hair passed by us at least 10 times and refused to acknowledge us so my mom had to seat because she couldn’t stand anymore. We couldn’t leave because it was pouring rain outside.
She finally screamed at us to seat and when I started ordering and asked her one question she screamed at me again, so I lost my appetite and didn’t order for me, just for my mom. My mom doesn’t speak English so she couldn’t say anything. Was this discrimination?
Then she gets mad and says in Ukrainian “stupid girl” (I understood) and left. She literally threw the plates on my mom’s face like we were begging for food.
After I needed to pay and she was ignoring me again. When I was finally able to get her attention by asking the other waitress she threw the bill at me and said “here sign there” and left.
I felt like crying… never ever ever wish somebody treats her that way. I hope she finds peace on whatever she was going though.

They give you bread and butter to start your meal, which is always an excellent start. I ordered the potato pirogies, the veal dumplings, lentil soup, and a Greek salad. My boyfriend and I shared, and it was the perfect amount of food. The restaurant is basically in a recc center, and feels like a little spot in your home town. It’s got wood panel walls, homey decor, and was not crowded or loud. Service was prompt but not hovering, and I felt like I was eating at my non existent eastern european grammas. 5/5

Great pierogies potato pancakes and more Ukrainian treats. If you get Anna as your waitress she is truly caring and a great acid to this restaurant.

I waited for my order for an hour, with all my love for this kitchen, the service was just disgusting

I'd say it tastes homemade, but we're talking old-world, cook it with love and patience, pay attention to each plate, and use fresh healthy ingredients without much grease, simple, honest, no shortcuts, type of home cooking.

I don't write reviews much, but I'm still thinking about how good this dinner was, days later.

This restaurant is a true gem (a bit hidden at the end of 60 feet hallway). We had halushky with feta and bacon and letcho (Hungarian goulash) with potato pancakes. We have also fried the white borscht (cold soup with buttermilk). Everything looked good and was delicious! Service was fast. ️️️️️

I visited a Ukrainian restaurant, I haven't felt so disappointed in a long time. I am from Ukraine and I really know what dishes should be. We ordered borscht, dumplings and pancakes. Borscht was a little sour, maybe because it was not fresh, I don't know, borscht 3/5. Dumplings looked untidy, but the taste was not bad, but it could be better. My biggest disappointment was pancakes. It seems like the simplest dish, but they were overcooked, the unpleasant taste of butter and filling was strongly felt - the jam was sour. The siege was not satisfactory, therefore 2/5. If you visit you will understand why. Therefore, I was determined for the best, but left hungry and disappointed

I’ve been to many Ukrainian restaurants, but nothing beats this restaurant. My personal favorite are the Varenyky, but I recommend everything on the menu.

Revisited this gem of a restaurant for the first time in 50+ years. It is a great as I had remembered, which, in itself, is miraculous. Terrific food, friendly service, and warm, homey atmosphere. Oh, the prices are also very reasonable! It’s not fancy; it’s the real deal! This restaurant has my highest recommendation!

Stumbled upon this restaurant out of whim since I was walking through the EV and was looking for dinner. Little did I know that I would discover an off the beaten path location with some of the best borscht and varenyky I’ve had (and trust me, I’ve had a lot)! The varenyky I ordered had meat inside (a mixture of beef and chicken), but they do have other fillings as well and vegetarian items on their menu for those with dietary restrictions.

Service was also great and the atmosphere made me feel like I was at home. I will definitely be back and bring some of my Ukrainian or Russian friends if they have a chance to visit.

The food was great. Service was so so.

Our meal came to $84 for 3 people. Which isn't bad. Had to wait for the bill for 20 minutes. Went up to pay and the waitress from Belarus asked what i'd like to tip. From our country we tip 10% if the service was so so. She got upset, told me I need to pay 18%. She added another 8.95 to the bill (sales tax maybe?) and then the tip. She told me it cost $118 total and ran out through the machine. We were already late for our show and just quickly paid, not realizing our $84 meal just cist $118.

The food great, watch your bill if the blobde from belarus is serving you.

I really loved everything on combination plate! Didn't really like the Ukrainian beef gourmet though. The place was really cute and nice:)
