Seriously love it here! It’s the perfect neighborhood spot. Oftentimes they have live music. Lots of seating. Delicious drinks. Good crowd too. No complaints!

Came here for a lunch date. The waiter was good, so was the food but a little over priced for what you get. My sandwich didn’t come with fries. For that reason - no 5 stars. I’d come back though.

I had a great time here! This is an american style restaurant/bar with a great selection of food, cocktails AND mocktails.as a former social drinker i was so happy to see that they have a whole mocktail menu—i got the non-alcoholic espresso martini.honestly the food and drinks were not the best but the service and atmosphere really made up for it.i was picky with my drink and they were very kind and accommodating.keep in mind, after 8pm it becomes a bar, so only 21+ are allowed and they ID everyone.i will happily come back and bring friends!

Wait staff was kind of inattentive but the french toast sticks were great. Also they decided to use a very powerful cleaner while we were eating so the chemicals kinda ruined our appetite.

Been there for a drink. Good crowd for a week day and plenty of space to sit. Drinks are OK and prices fine. Good place to meet other people.

Have been here a few times with friends for dinner & drinks and we've loved it each time. The ambiance is excellent! I've never been much of a pickle enjoyer, but the fried pickles are at the top of my list on their menu.

It was so dark in there I could not read the menu or see the person at the table in front of me. So good place to go if you think your date might be ugly.

Omg so good! Went here on a whim and it did not disappoint. So cute inside, a little pricey, but the food was fantastic. So much bigger inside than we thought too. Two great bars, fantastic atmosphere. Got there at 4: 15pm, got seated immediately no problem and stayed a couple hours. Place does fill up quite a bit after 5: 00,5: 30. Will be coming here again next time in UES.

More soundproofing inside please! Indoor dining at dinnertime gets very loud and unpleasant from having to yell over your meal.

One of the best bars on the UES! The crowd here is so chill (typically later 20s and up, I'd say) and the signature cocktails are all so yummy (Afterglow and Penrose Spritz are my favorites). Pickle back shots are a must - the pickle juice they have is AMAZING. The food is great too if you're down for a noisier dinner and a super fun time!

Best cocktails, good beer selection, comfortable high class vibe. Great for dates, better for groups, younger crowd.

I really loved everything about this place! The cocktail menu is phenomenal (try the slowjamz! - a gin and apricot jam cocktail) and the appetizers are stunning. We had the glazed carrots with pistachios and chilis, and the buffalo brussel sprouts! An abundance of chic space with brick walls, real candles lit throughout and vintage light bulbs keeping the perfect post work glow. Spacious enough, but also gets busy with the perfect amount of people. Great vibe for a first date or a girls night. Two different bars, one up front and one more intimate in the back. Clean bathrooms, friendly staff.

I never write review BUT my girlfriend and I stopped in on a Thursday a few weeks ago and had an amazing time! The cocktails were amazing (dirty pickle martini was to die for!) I think our servers name was Kelly- she was so sweet and a breath of fresh air in the city. She answered our many questions with a smile. Made the experience that much better! Thanks Penrose for an a awesome evening!

Delicious food that comes in portions that well justify the price. Add on the nice service and convenient location and this makes an amazing spot to grab some drinks and a meal!

Formerly a Great spot to go, very creative drinks and good food for any given time, the doorman/ security guard had really poor customer service and pretty much just ignored being greeted by my female friends and wife as if someone was bothering him, Otherwise always liked the place.

For me travelling to NYC is not complete without a visit to The Penrose. I was first introduced to the bar in 2015 by a friend, I visited again in 2018, on each visit I was filled with good vibes from the staff and everyone around me, the atmosphere is so relaxing and welcoming. The food is simply great, whether you are veggie or full on meat eater there is something here for all food lovers. Beer from the tap is also top notch. Cant wait to visit again whenever that may be. Until then carry on being great!

Have only been for drinks, but thought they were great and really enjoyed the lively ambience and atmosphere. Didn’t have a table, but was able to find a couple of seats in the back as a walk in.

One of my favorite bars in the city. Food and cocktails are tops. And the aesthetic is meticulous.

Awesome cocktails! My partner and I came for cocktails and tried 3 different ones each and all of them were super unique and tasty.

Marilyn was a fantastic server along with the entire staff, great work! We felt so welcome. Genuine hospitality at its best here, check it out!

We got Brunch here. Food was awesomely delicious and HUGE! Staff was super nice and fast. Highly recommended!

Excellent fried pickles with a bit more heat to their Chipotle aoli than I've had elsewhere (which was good!). The Mac and cheese was also very filling and the beer selection has a few surprises and seasonal options. It can be a bit loud outside so if you're looking for more quiet conversation, perhaps come at an odd hour or look elsewhere.

My friend and I just moved to UES and heard great things about the restaurant. We were super excited to try it for brunch and it is one of the most disappointing experiences I've ever had. I ordered the chicken and waffles and my friend ordered the green tomato BLT. For me, my chicken had no taste whatsoever even after I added salt and hot sauce. The waffles and tater tops were slightly above lukewarm. For my friend, there was barely any basil aioli, her bread was hard and there was barely even any green tomatoes. Our waitress came to our table twice: to take our order and give us the check. I literally had to wave her down for a knife 15 minutes after getting out food. Then, when I asked for the check, she threw it on the table and walked off. For a Sunday brunch, we expected good food and nice atmosphere. Instead we left hungry and slightly nauseous. We will not be visiting or recommending this restaurant, which is sad because we live 5 minutes away. What a disappointing way to end the weekend.

Excellent food and service, even during busy Saturday brunch times. We were seated pretty quickly at the bar, though there was a table wait. We were lucky to find 4 seats easily. The bartender was very helpful and suggested some good items (fries and french toast sticks). The drinks were on point and the food was plentiful and hot. The burger was really very good even though we had it cooked well done for my pregnant wife. Definitely would visit again.
