The Modern earned its 3 Michelin stars in each perfectly thoughtful, well executed bite. For me food is art, I came to the Museum of Modern Art museum because it happened to be attached to the Modern restaurant and appreciated that perusing the museum would be a wonderful experience. The din positively wowed me, starting with the eggs on eggs and eggs. I didn’t think I would like this course because the egg custard appeared pretty runny, but it was absolutely delightful, and I ended up wanting to lick my plate. Even if each course weren’t utter perfection, the Modern was slated to dazzle, as a solo lady diner, I was afforded the best seat in the house. At the apex of the window and corner seat, perched overlooking MOMAS sculpture garden, the dining rooms juxtaposion of modern and classic, earth and human, an embodiment of the food itself.

The tasting progressed to a white fish ceviche in basil Dashi broth it was both tart, floral. Then a lobster course, the lobster was reverse grilled, but I’m not sure how the technique yielded its consistency. It was like butter. The taglioni with white truffle supplement was heavenly coated in an incredibly generous, serving of rarest of all, white alba truffle.

If a fourth Michelin star were possible The Modern certainly would’ve earned it today, in my opinion, one of the best restaurants in New York City. Big thank you to Michelin guide for being such a reliable resource for discerning dining recommendations. ️️️

We have been in 5-6 Michelin restaurants this year. The Modern give me the best experience so far. From the food quality，environment to service，they all excellent. Every single dish was great，especially the 14 days dry age duck. It perfectly eliminated the strong smell of duck while keeping the meat juicy and the skip crispy. I would love to visit again.

Waiter: I will live the lobster on the table and explain it to you.
Customer: we are in the process of moving a table and this surface is not stable.
Waiter: I will leave it here and explain it and after they will move it. It's okay
Customer: It's not okay.
She left it there.
Later they made a new order for us but food waste is not a 2 Michelin attitude.

Had the pleasure to dine here before Covid and it was one of the best Michelin experience. Highly recommend the kitchen table. It was a wonderful show in action watching so many kitchen staff work together. Not to mention the food itself was even better! Although it was non-tipping back then, the service was absolutely top-notch. The restaurant is so beautiful too, overlooking the MoMa.

The food and service at the Bar at the Modern is as good as you’d expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Portion sizes are a bit on the small side, but certainly reasonable. The patrons are also fun for people watching.

Best gentleman's club in NYC! The ladies are beautiful, the food is actually amazing, the staff is very helpful and polite, and there's even a roof deck! Shout out to Michael the bartender. You're in good hands at the bar if he's working!

Absolutely amazing meal and outstanding drinks.their espresso martinj is one of the best i've had.i thought the oysters and the caviar toast were incredible.i think the starters were all very creative and delicious.i think the main (steak) was good, but not on the same level as the starters.the dessert was also spot-on.the service here is incredible- great experience through and through! Ask for the bar menu if you aren't sitting at the bar.that's where the fried chicken and caviar toast are!

Loved the restaurant and its take on modern American food. One of the best in a modern museum worldwide, perhaps second only to Nerua in Bilbao. Food-wise, it’s definitively on the right track.

Modern was an absolutely amazing experience from the start! There are two areas.the bar and the modern. We had rsvp in the modern which was more of a formal feel which i preferred- The restaurant is very beautiful and the tasting menu is delicious, nothing crazy over the top crazy tastes, but what you would expect from this American French fare in my opinion, and we have done ALOT of Michiline restaurants. What I was really impressed with was the service! Every and I mean every server, food runner, manager, whomever it was that came to our table were so friendly, knowledgeable and professional that to me, made up for any tiny detail that i may have noticed- they do describe it as french American but the foods weren't over the top in comparison to other top restaurants i have been to- but thats in no way a negative- the food was on point and very delicious- This is a must go to if you are thinking of a nice dinner out:)

Recently visited for private dining and had a great time. High quality and fresh ingredients. Food was a bit underwhelming this time. The gem lettuce was well plated but the charred avocado was barely noticeable and the flavor was overwhelmingly the tart buttermilk. Beef tenderloin dish was perfectly done. Dessert was a blueberry pastry that was also underwhelming because the pastry was no longer crisp

From the moment we arrived, the staff and sommelier visited us right away to wish us a Happy Anniversary. The atmosphere of the Modern Bar Room was both inviting and enjoyable but unique in appearance

But the food is the all time star, this food is absolutely incredible

The risotto is some of the best you will ever taste, wagyu is melt in your mouth.
Every course from the steak tartare, oysters, to the dessert and cheeses was exceptional.

We had a stellar wine pairing and a great cocktails to start.

I can’t recommend this place enough and if you love food or drink, you need to treat your palate to this exceptional experience.

To top it all off, they even offered us a kitchen tour.

Just phenomenal.

The gem lettuce salad has a buttermilk type dressing so if you don't like that don't get it. The salmon was amazing! The bread is really tasty too and I asked for an extra on it. Waitstaff is really nice, and professional but never stuffy.

We had dinner at the bar, before they had opened up the dining room again and it was a fantastic experience. The food was very good, I think they were a little busy so the service wasn’t quite at the level you’d expect but we didn’t mind. I’d definitely come back. The dining room is a great option if you don’t want to spend a decent chunk of change on dinner but still get to experience the great food. The oysters were a highlight.

Not having been back here for more than 2 years, we were very pleased to find that the level of service and the quality of the cuisine were still as exceptional as we remembered. In particular, Fiona and Marcella were outstanding. Their attentive and informative service should be an example for all restaurants. If I were to be a little picky, the rest of the service team could be a little more attentive. Seems a little sloppy at times (eg water splashing over the glasses when being poured). Nevertheless, an outstanding experience, and we will be back!

For a restaurant that calls itself ‘The Modern, ’ the interior layout is anything but and causes my face to come into contact with a waiter’s tocks more than once. Not to mention sub par service waiter not really attentive and a less than savory maitre d who couldnt be bothered to greet us on our way out. Not really what I expected from a restaurant of this perceived caliber and very dissappointed with how the wait staff conducted themselves.

One of our top 4 restaurants in the world. Had the fix price menu in the main room and it was beyond fantastic. About 2 hours for dinner and it was a wonderful experience. Every course was great and we got a lot of food before it was all done. Worth every penny for sure.

We enjoyed our meal (gnocchi and lobster linguine) but the grapefruit and pistachio salad was the shining star of our dining experience. The atmosphere of this restaurant is a bit pretentious and stiff, however.

Go for the lunch in the Bar Room, it’s delightful. Recently had the eggplant with spicy ‘nduja- wonderful. Paired perfectly with the Cristom Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley. Service was friendly and the ambiance was as expected.

One place checked off my bucket list. This place was magnificent. From the time, we arrived everyone made us feel welcomed. The place is beautiful. The food was terrific. The taste, the smell, the plating. On the way out, I noted to my wife the kitchen. Someone from the kitchen noticed her looking quickly and impromptu offered us a tour of the kitchen. We got to talk to the head chef for a good time. He told us how they were only open for 9 days since closing for the pandemic. Man what an experience! I can't wait to go again.

Peach dessert was really surprising and delicious. Bathroom are co-ed. Not a cheap place but good and if you are near MOMA their cool bar area is great to stop in and relax.

If you don’t have a reservation, you have no luck. That was me too. So, I opted for a bar seating which on first come first serve. All staff at the bar were very nice and friendly. In fact, all staff at The Modern were very nice and friendly! I was very impressed at how much they made sure every one was treated with GREAT service they deserved. Food was amazing. Really delicious! The chef was highly creative to transfer everything into a new level of taste, look, and artistry! Wine selection was so nice. If you are not sure, the bartender will have plenty of knowledge to give you suggestions for what you are looking for to fit your palette. By far, besides the restaurant at Musee d’Orsay in Paris, this is my favorite restaurant at the museum - MoMA it is. I love every bit of it.

Wow! I don't even know what to write. I've been to Modern twice over the past few months and I am just speechless. All dishes are a piece of art. Genius chef and extremely professional front line staff.

This review is for the Bar Room as the actual restaurant will re open in September.
We had a very early reservation and the place had few tables already seated with a younger chic crowd. I had a great martini to start and then the sommelier was very helpful recommending a bottle of Rose from their over 3,000 bottles wine list and also a great bottle of a Spanish white. I was also very please that he didn’t suggest the most valuable ones.
The meal was pretty outstanding.
My friend and I shared everything and we were very satisfied.
Steak tartare was very fresh and tasty, chanterelle mushrooms very rich in a delicious way and great portion size, the tagliolini with black truffles and egg yolk was also very tasty. The wagyu steak was sublime and the burrata in it was a great surprise.
As the evening progressed the crowd turned much much older but not fashionable nor artsy as expected.
The biggest disappointment for me was our waiter. He perhaps had no previous experience but this is a 2 Michelin starred establishment so we expected best. He made us feel rushed, keep asking if we were ready to order, spilled water, the martini, huge pours of wine that made us feel that he wanted to turn the table asap. When I asked about about the pasta and the wagyu steak his reply was “well.they are very different” like if I didn’t know that or if I thought the pasta also came from the cattle.
Will definitely come back because I am a neighbor and hopefully will have a better service.

I thought the duck liver was too salty. Then after I finished the duck liver, I waited 35min for the wagyu steak to come out. For some reason, the steak tasted like liver. Perhaps because it wasn't properly bled out or stored? It was very chewy.
Maybe I just don't know how to enjoy this food.

Do not go there, they promote discrimination and segregation against the unvaccinated, not American. If you support freedom and liberty don't support this place.

The Modern is quite affordable; it is advisable to book in advance, especially in busy periods. We had a great lunch; as with most Michelin-rated restaurants, you are paying for the ambiance.

The Modern restaurants is a great place after walking the museum to stop by sit down relax and have a meal, this is a great place and amazing food as well. So come on over and enjoy the benefits of a museum and delicious food as well.

The first time I come here, the food is delicious, which is my favorite flavor. I am very satisfied with it. I will recommend it to my family and friends to come here to taste the food.

I could say that the chef is a professional for he could prepare food excellently. I loved taking photos inside the restaurant because of their beautiful interior, but what I liked the most about this place is a wonderful service and fantastic food. If you want a five-star dining experience, you may have to visit this place.

The Modern has amazing dumplings and non-dumpling dishes. We tried the sampler dumpling platter which was delicious and served with small tongs and scissors to make cutting the large dumplings easy for sharing. The Tteok-bokki was also amazing. It was served with crispy strips on top which was an excellent touch for a crunchy texture next to the chewy rice cakes. The service was friendly and fast and overall we had a great experience dinning here. We will definitely be back, and are excited to try more menu items.

We're regulars here and it never fails to please our clients. Highly recommend their private spaces and team if you're looking for a special venue for a meal.

I'm a food lover, and I've been through too many restaurants and tried different cuisine, but this restaurant is unique, and the food here is extra special. It's my first time trying their food, and I'm impressed because it tastes good. I will surely recommend this restaurant to everyone, especially to those food lovers. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This is more of a New American restaurant though one could view it as an Italian.

Really pretty food. The squid, the salad, the fried seafood, the meat balls are just insanely good. Pizza is huge. The pastas are all house made and very substantial. I would absolutely recommend this place if you are looking for something classy and with really good variety. For me, I try to stay with carb light items, so the fish was the one I would get.

The most beautiful dish of all is the watermelon radish squid. Very pretty.

This restaurant offers the most award-winning food anywhere in this town. You will dine in a room filled with hundreds of hand-painted tiles and style fountains, which set the ambiance for a memorable evening coupled with the most delicious dinner ever. Be sure to order a pitcher of Sangria. It's the bomb!

Solid spot for Mediterranean food.

Unfortunately they were out of beef Schwarma when I went so we got the chickens and falafels with hummus and cucumber yogurt as the sides.

One of the only times I've truly been impressed by the execution of a caviar dish. The plating at the Modern, was definitely some of the more impressive preparations I've had. Technically sound dishes well balanced with textures, and flavors. The definition of a once in a while treat.

The decor of the restaurant is very unique, with the outer windows going directly into the sculpture garden of the MOMA. With interior decorations stark white as ballerinas throughout the restaurant.

I don't know if I'm a repeat customer to the Modern, but I certainly don't regret the first visit.

I heartily recommend this restaurant to you. The quality of service they provided was amazing! Their foods and drinks were excellent. They deserve great ratings!
