So I’m very disappointed with my experience at this restaurant.

My friend and I went there today for restaurant week lunch. Lunch cost $45 which is ok but was not impressed.

The portions were extra small and they made us pay $20 for cheap lipton tea.

I will not recommend this place nor go there again! Average spot with average food should not cost $$$!

I don’t give 5 stars but this one deserves it! From impeccable service to elevated Indian food like you’ve never had before, this restaurant wins all the awards. I have been a fan for years and go regularly. Try the fresh dishes and also the Tamarind Margarita Up. The appetizers are yummy and the mains are out of this world. They have a beautiful wine list and incredible service. The staff is knowledgeable, professional and kind. The halibut is one of my favorites. If you want to impress someone, this is the place to come. And don’t forget to also try all the desserts. You can’t go wrong here.

Quantity is less but quality is best.
Food was really good but expensive.
Malai naan is one of the best and unique thing I tried if you are going there must try Malai naan and hara bhara kabab.

Food is actually very good. Unfortunately our wait staff did something very inappropriate that made me not want to come back here. We asked him how big the portion one of the entrees is, his response was “it is mandatory that every person orders an entree”. My husband and I love Indian food and at other places we always order a bunch of appetizers and share an entree because we like variety. I don’t think this restaurant has this policy where everyone has to order an entree. I think he said that to prevent us from spending too little. We didn’t care and ordered a bunch of appetizers anyways on top of one entree, which way exceeded the cost of two entrees that’s when the wait staff’s attitude got better. We finished the dinner as if nothing happened and left a reasonably generous tip, although the incident left us a very bad impression about this restaurant. This was back in late 2021/ early 2022 when the city was still combatting Covid but that should not justify this staff’s behavior, especially from a Michelin recognized restaurant.

I highly recommend going to Tamarind to celebrate a special occasion! The chicken tikka masala, chicken takka tak, lamb vindaloo and saag paneer were incredible. For dessert, you must try the cardamom crème brûlée which was unlike anything I had before! I’d describe the menu as elevated traditional Indian food with exquisite flavor. Staff was very attentive (including to gluten free, all nuts and sesame allergies) and the ambiance of the whole restaurant was lovely.

Came for our fifth anniversary and had a great evening. Lamb chops were perfect. Waiter was very friendly and made good recommendations. Good for an occasion.

Some of the most mediocre Indian food I’ve ever had! Came to Tamarind with high expectations for the Michelin Star restaurant (realized they do not actually have it anymore, and I can see why), left very unsatisfied. Nothing special about the presentation of the dishes, food is forgettable, paneer pasand claimed to have a tomato sauce as pictured in other reviews but mine did not, and some tables were being served portions onto their plates, but I did not receive this service. We ordered pomegranate lassi and a mocktail and both were uninspired. I’ve had better bottled drinks from a grocery store. Will not be returning or recommending to anyone. If this was a random restaurant on a random street in NY with half the prices, I would not even leave a review. However this was such a let down; I cannot believe I took a special trip into the city to try this place. We had so much food leftover but could not even be bothered to bring it home. Hate to leave a negative review but this place totally missed the mark.

My husband and I took our parents and our 6 year old daughter to Tamarind. Beware if you go with kids under 8, they seat you outside in these makeshift boxes which even the servers constantly struggle with going in and out. Esp on a day when it’s 90F these boxes feel super warm as you are sweating while eating overwhelming spicy food. We were going to get the coconut chicken dish which our server discouraged us to get and instead suggested tamarind chicken. Even after telling them we prefer mild spices everything was extremely spicy. Jaljeera cocktail was the worst I have had in my life. The malai naan was the only thing that we got was delicious! Other things that we got from the menu were mediocre.
The ambiance inside which is promoted on the website is great but outside atmosphere in the boxes is not good. They should atleast play some music and make sure the boxes are not facing the huge garbage can. Definitely they shouldn’t charge the same $$$ as the inside for mediocre food and 0 ambiance. Very disappointing

Have been there twice and both times it has been excellent. Ambiance is classy, service is very attentive and food is delicious.

Love the food and hospitality! We are from the West Coast but every time we visit NYC, we make it a point to visit Tamarind for dinner! The cocktails are delicious too! We tried the Tamarind Margarita and Jaljeera! For food we ordered Palak Chaat, Topli na Paneer, Paneer Pasanda, Dal Makhni, Nargisi Kofta, Broccoli & Cheese Naan, Mushroom & Truffle Oil Naan and Lachcha Paratha! We had the Black Forest Cake! Every dish hit the spot! We’ll definitely come back!

We absolutely love this place. The ambience is one that I would describe as ‘restrained elegance’. The service is impeccable and one is greeted sincerely from the entrance to the table. The food is excellent. Would definitely recommend the chicken and lamb kebabs from the tandoor. It is tender and almost melts in your mouth. For vegetarians the lotus root kofta is delicious. End the evening with a kulfi dessert.

Restaurant week menu sucks. Tandoori chicken and fish tasted like grilled chicken and grilled fish. They both lacked spice and biryani rice was just bland yellow colored rice. Not sure about their a La carte menu but not sure if I wanna go back and try it.

Stopped by for dinner and was impressed. Lovely aesthetic, tasty flavourful food and supreme service. Will be back.

Went to Tamarind with the family. Honestly, the food was average. Nothing special. But the cocktails were great, plus the service and venue itself were top tier. Wasn't too expensive either, a well fed family of four can expect to spend around 300 all in.

For authentic good Indian food, I wouldn't come here but for a nice environment it is a good spot

Food was excellent. We happened to be a large group, so we shared a lot of food and everything was absolutely great. Everyone in the group loved the food.

Overrated place. Came here with high expectations and left disappointed with the service and food. This was our 2nd time. Never coming again.

We were excited to try this place and just ordered delivery. This was the worst Indian food we've had in years! The curry didn't come with rice (which we thought would for $35 each) and they were watery/bland. We tossed out the korma because it tasted like grainy sour yogurt: (

I really hope this was a one-off, but for the price we were extremely disappointed!

The food was awesome! Excellent presentation and taste to match. The service was pathetic - The staff was always hovering and rushing us - as if in a hurry to be ready for the next seating. Everytime one of paused between eating, they would come and ask 'are you done'! Because of this, I would suggest one should go elsewhere.

Have been to Tamarind numerous times and definitely can say food last night was just not up to par. For appetizers we ordered spinach chaat, aloo tikkey, mushrooms, and we ordered bharwan mirchi. The spinach chaat seemed like they fried frozen spinach. It was just way to oily and the spinach was all crumbled up. Absolutely no taste at all was lacking something. The aloo tikkey we hardly touched since it was so bad. Again this dish had no taste. The mushrooms and bharwan mirchi the two lifesaving dishes. They were delicious. For dinner we ordered Nargisi kofta, dal Makahni and the asked for side of gravy that same with the bharwan mirchi. Though let me tell you we were better off skipping dinner. Again all the dishes lacked flavor. The side of gravy we ordered that same with bharwan mirchi was definitely different than what we got with our entree. We had celebrated a anniversary of family member who was visiting from London and this place definitely live up to the standards

I wish I could have rated this self proclaimed posh place in negative. They should mention that kids below 8 aren't even allowed inside the restaurant forget inclusiveness. Such shameful policy.
