Probably the largest outdoor shop in New York There were a lot of mountain climbing, climbing, bicycles, and ski products Larger scale than Ishii Sports in Akihabara, Japan
If you’re white then the service is right. If you’re an Asian woman like me, don’t expect them to treat you respectfully! Their body and their eyes slip away from me very fast. I have to ask several times to get a shoes to try on. Horrible experience!
REI’s union busting is disgusting. REI Soho workers get 5 stars because of the amazing work they put in to hold this company accountable to treat their workers with humanity and for showing solidarity, while continuing to provide excellent help to customers interested in getting outdoors. But REI as a company and as management get 1 star because while they put up a guise of being a progressive and ethical company, they cut workers’ pay, ignore the rights of people who need accomodations, and actively funnel hundreds of thousands of dollars into repressing working class power. It’s truly disgusting and I strongly encourage REI managers and higher-ups to remember that not only is listening to the demands of your workers the right thing to do, but respect in the workplace also makes for happier workers who will be “better” workers. For customers- remember that even companies that pretend to be ethical and green only care about the money. Shame on you REI!
Not just shocked but extremely disappointed that this store took their resupply off the floor! While i understand that i can still buy used online, i think i am not the only member who prefers to see, feel, or try on gear before purchasing - and i know i’m not the only member who loves a deal! This change will definitely be wavering how often i shop at REI as i will be looking for more accessible gear.
REI is the go to spot for a person who craves adventure related items. I must have stopped at REI 10 times before my trip to Kenya in 2019 and would have stopped there many more times in 2020 for the trip I had planned (Covid changed that) but I once again went there this year for my return trip to Iceland and got brand new hiking boots. 10 stars for REI.
I’m a lifelong fan of REI and they accessibility they represent but this location is nothing short of inconsistent. Size/product selections tend to be all over the place and frequently staff are hard to find. Multiple times I’ve gone in looking for something specific or wanting to ask questions and ended up leaving when I couldn’t find an employee free on the entire floor. As much as I hate to do it, this location functions best for online ordering with in-store pickup.
We spent two hours shopping for a literal expedition to the Arctic, and got about $2200 worth of items. At the checkout, we were told that there are no bags, and we will have to carry our 4 pairs of pants, 3 different jackets, a shoebox, a daypack, and assorted sundries in our hands back home across town. The store manager, you see, decided to go bagless to save the environment. No, we can't have a garbage bag to carry everything home. It's in our hands or nothing. So we photographed all the item labels and left to shop online at home.
Elias was a great help! Taking me and my partner through which backpacks would be the best, sleeping bags and camping gear. Super helpful and kind. Highly recommend REI because of Elias, taking customer service to the next level. We are now forever loyal customers!
Poorly stocked and what is available is off-season gear. Every other REI I frequent clears merchandise to make way for the upcoming/present season. If you need winter gear in the midst of summer, this is your place. Plan in advance to supplement your in-person with online shopping. Personnel are helpful, at least.
It’s the most amazing outdoor sport store that I have visited in NY. You can find whatever you want and the have a lot of discounts. There I found the greatest variety of running supplements. The staff also is really friendly, they’ll help to find whatever you need until the end.
