The saunas are ALWAYS broken, the equipment can be in rough shape depending on the day. The staff can be really cool but also extremely rude, depending on who is working the front desk. It’s extremely spacious so it never feels cramped! I would not go out of your way to go to this NYSC, but if it’s all that’s accessible it works.
23 January 2024 16:05
The administration is terrible, the manager (Diego) how bad that office smells like grass and this guy (Jordan) has mental problems. I hope the owners put an end to this.
30 June 2023 4:59
Recently, management at NYSC implemented a series of highly-publicized renovations. However, the end result left much to be desired. These changes appear to prioritize private trainers and their clients over regular members. About two-thirds of the existing, functional equipment was removed, and black carpets for CrossFit enthusiasts were installed instead, with the rest of the equipment being cramped in the smallest possible amount of space.

Another disappointing aspect is the reduced accessibility of the studio, which is now closed for most of the day. Management cited disorganization as the reason, but they could have hired staff to maintain order or held members accountable instead.

Compared to other gym franchise's locations, which offer a wider array of equipment at a lower cost, this NYSC has become less appealing. These changes have made it difficult to complete a workout without waiting for machines at any time of the day.

Yet another disappointment by NYSC
06 June 2023 1:47
There are no machines and the menbreaia only for this gym costs 50 dollars and it does not have machines it is worse horrible and ugly the better is the
Planet fitnest or the bling gym or else the gym in the park that is at 145 and riverside and are cheaper than this gym does not serve the NYSC
18 January 2023 1:22
This location is a disaster. Half the machines are broken. Really dirty floors (hair and dustballs everywhere). And for over a week now, no paper towels so we can’t wipe down machines. How do you run out of paper towels? And to not provide anything for people to wipe machines down is a health hazard during flu and cold season. Management doesn’t seem to care. I really want to like this gym but I think because they are the only option in the neighborhood, they can get away with terrible facilities maintenance. They make the bare minimum an impossible standard.
01 January 2023 1:04
I used to love this gym but now I dislike coming here. People don’t clean or replenish in the bathroom. It’s disgusting
21 December 2022 18:37
Evening group classes are top-notch, especially total body conditioning on Monday, and body pump and yoga on Wednesday. Amazing teachers. Also quite like the sauna and the fact that the area is always clean. People at the reception are super welcoming, too.
09 December 2022 6:09
I have nothing but great things to say about my past trainers - those are my guys and I loved my experience with 'em. But this club simply cannot be helped and may need to just close.

Up until I stopped going, it was a wildly infuriating experience. I would leave in a stress-filled rage because imagine piling on weight through the pandemic, finally finding the motivation to get it off but you go to a gym, spend thousands on PT and membership and be met with broken machines, spray bottles and paper towels to wipe down the machines down, broken equipment, no paper towels in the restrooms, etc. It was so demoralizing.

I was fine to just leave and make peace with the experience and I would not have written this review if not for a random charge for membership despite asking numerous times to have my membership canceled. I literally live in NJ now and have no use for the club in general and even if I lived next door I would not patron.

I do not play about my money, they've done this numerous times and on principle, I will now work with my bank to block them as a merchant. Would encourage anyone else to do the same.
25 November 2022 18:15
I part of the silver sneakers program & it always states I'm not a member after signing up & I had an appointment with a trainer who never showed up I'm disappointed with nysc but it the only gym in my neighborhood
13 November 2022 0:46
The location is great for me, it is close to my home and the hours are very convenient. There are a lot of machines that are good for the kind of work outs I like to do. Some of the equipment needs to be fixed there were handles missing on some of the machines. The staff is very nice and I feel welcome there even though I am definitely not a a fitness expert!
09 November 2022 4:18
You can't beat NYSC 145th Street for convenient location, equipment or staff. Everyone is super friendly, there are plenty of classes and the overall vibe of the place is very nice and conducive to promoting fitness. It's my go-to club.
30 October 2022 16:57
The gym’s in pretty bad condition (equipment falling apart / broken and facilities are poorly maintained). At the same time it’s really the only gym in the area so not really any alternatives (no wonder NYSC hasn’t fixed it up). Surprised a Blink or another chain hasn’t tried to expand in this neighborhood. One good part is staff is generally nice / polite
26 October 2022 10:55
I’ve had complaints in the past but recently prior to those complaints. Efforts have and are being made to ensure better quality of service and faculty. I’m looking forward to my future at this gym and the renovations in November.

Like someone else said, "If you live close to any NYSC where minorities (black or brown people live) don’t expect the basics. "

There is no soap or paper towels regularly. In a time where viruses like COVID-19 and Monkeypox are running rampant, it's clear that this location does NOT care about its members.

And not to mention the equipment is antiquated and constantly out of service. Sadly, this is the only gym in the area so there's nowhere else to go. If you don't mind commuting to workout, I'd strongly recommend finding another gym!
07 October 2022 12:58
Racist policies. Let’s put it plain and simple. If you live close to any NYSC where minorities (black or brown people live) don’t expect the basics. No towels, soap or even toilet paper (125th st) this services can only be found 110st and below in Manhattan.

Terrible experience with this gym. I feel so sad because it's the only gym in the neighborhood. I tried for almost 2 years. They took 75 annual fee plus 50 per month. Overpriced. Today I came to cancel and ask for my refund of my annual fee because of course I won't do one more year here plus I had freeze the account before.
14 May 2022 9:52
They charge you when they like, don’t even wait for the end of the month, also the day you open your account they don’t explain nothing to you about more charges after each month
06 May 2022 16:26
Came in today on 5 day trial, had been to this location once before months ago, and was told I couldn’t do a 5 day trial again, because “He’s seen me before” Didn’t check my Id or anything. He made it seem like I was trying to get over on him. Saying things like “oh it’d be nice to workout for free huh. ” And “I can’t let you have a 5 day because you don’t want to pay” I barely said a word and told him I come to New York City for work and am only here 3 days and yet because “he’s seen me there once before months ago”, I can’t use the club unless I pay for a membership. This company has really gone downhill with the people they hire and represent them. The tall skinny guy with the beard and accent was very rude about it, like he took it personal and couldn’t wait to talk about me to others sitting in their cubicles as soon as I turned my back. I plan on relocating to nyc and would have joined once I was settled here but not anymore. I wouldn’t give nysc a dime based on the customer service. Stay away from this club, give your money to a better place.
04 May 2022 1:54
They make their customer wait for more than 1 hour in the cold to open the door of the gym. INSANE!
22 April 2022 21:42
It’s true, this gym is falling apart. I wish they would have the machines working for example- the stair master machines are never functioning and it’s annoying! I’ve bought this up to management and they just keep saying next week will be working since it’s the only gym in the area and since I pay affordable I’ll be staying
17 March 2022 13:26
The location on 145th street hasn't had hot water in the showers for literally WEEKS now and it's ridiculous. I've had it!
22 February 2022 18:18
This gym has really fallen off through the years.

Machines are missing some of the weight labels so theres no way to be sure how much your lifting unless you are already familiar with the equipment.

It is also not very organized dumbbells are never in the right place and some are also missing the weight indicator number. I know members are responsible for putting stuff back where it belongs but most gyms I’ve been to employees go around organizing things more regularly. Also most gyms have better quality dumbbells even for the lighter weights.

The gym itself is also not very clean. I saw a bottle of green juice on a windowsill and it was still there when I returned the next day.

I also had to shower with freezing cold water on a day that was extremely cold because the hot water went out a few mins into my shower.

This location gets 2 stars because the staff I’ve encountered has been really nice especially John (personal trainer), Joanna (front desk attendant) and Izzy (GM).

I’ve really been contemplating canceling but its the only gym in the area. Wish they would really work making things better.
03 February 2022 1:55
There is nothing excellent about this gym it’s literally just the only one in the area. The hours change constantly without notice. Machines are moving around so it’s clear someone wants something to improve but the equipment the vast majority of the customers use has not changed. If you’re looking for a dumbbell between 12- 30lbs, good luck, there’s only one set of each and they could be anywhere—upstairs, downstairs, under a random machine, or likely in someone else’s hands— so factor “search time” into your workout plan because it’s significant. There’s far too many unused cardio machines and not nearly enough squat racks, barbells, or plates to load onto them. There’s ONE dedicated place for deadlifts. One. Again good luck w any plates under 45 tho. There are zero 35lb/thinner barbells, and no small simple things that can and should be standard like hip thrust pads, ab mats, or rubber bands. The floor is constantly cluttered w equipment the last person didn’t re-rack. The ground downstairs is disgusting and crowded so the only place to do anything lying down is a tiny area upstairs that’s understandably packed by other patrons seeking space. This place is the Walmart of gyms: The best thing going for it is the price and location. You can get the job done there but there’s nothing exceptional or even enjoyable about the experience. Positive reviews are probably fake/from the staff.
18 January 2022 21:56
The ladies locker room showers is extremely dirty. Management need to expect their broken equipment, plumbing, wall stains and carpet damages. I'm so sorry I didn't request a club tour before my monthly fee. Not Satisfied 145 NYSC
26 December 2021 8:05
I really appreciate the staff at this local branch. Everybody is warm and welcoming and they keep the facilities up to date as far as Covid standards go. Friendly and helpful staff!
05 December 2021 14:27
All around 5 Star experience! Um. I definitely feel challenged to improve my game here at 145th St. New York Sports Clubs. I've been going here for years and I love this place! Everything is spotlessly clean and regularly maintained. Haven't experienced personal training as yet, but I'm very encouraged, if any staff member suggests, I won't be able to say no. Lol. Excellent location too!
28 September 2021 6:35
Nasty, NO AC in middle of the summer. Half of machines broken. Nastiest gym you can find in NYC is this one, thus -1 star.
20 September 2021 5:19
Great customer service and very close to the D and A line. There's a lot of equipment at this location, is never crowded and is kept very clean, to my relief.
09 August 2021 3:40
Nice gym Long time Member Raven Was Very helpful today i was having throble setting up the app on my phone she stayed on the phone until i got the email walked me through it now i can Go back into the Classes Waiting on ZUMBA
23 June 2021 22:26
The problem is the inconsiderate people that go to this gym. They hog the machines and it is hard to get any type of serious bench press done. The gym is too small for the amount of people they allow in.
24 April 2021 16:35
It was my first time in a gym The staff walked me through my first day showed me how to use equipment and was very helpful and pleasant
25 January 2021 0:09
Whenever I have an inquiry or even an issue, the staff are always courteous, professional, and quick to resolve the issue in the best way possible. They always make me feel like a valued member and person, not just a dollar sign.
More specifically, I had an issue with freezing me membership, so I reached out and spoke to a woman named Leandra. She was SUPER helpful. She explained the steps to me, was patient and answered my many questions, and even followed up the next month to make certain that things went as planned.
Another time when I had a billing issue and got to speak with her again, she offered me the same exemplary customer service.
I can honestly say that my experience working with her and staff like her, are the reason I'm holding onto my membership. I like the treatment, I like the amenities, and I like the peace of mind offered during my workouts.
24 December 2020 12:11
Charged me during COVID while gym was closed. Manager hangs up on you when you call to get a refund. You have to call your bank and cancel all future transactions from NYSC or they will keep charging you.
20 December 2020 9:20
Charged me over 100 dollars in membership fees while the gym was closed due to COVID. They won't give me a refund. Place was always dirty too. Feces and urine always all over the bathroom floors. Choose a different gym.
14 December 2020 20:40
Bring maze and taser if you do go to this location. You might find it handy in some cases. The people here are not very the most friendly in the city.
10 December 2020 11:44
I get what I go there for. The place is spotless now, and they are following all the rules put into place for protecting us from Covid 19.
05 December 2020 1:12
Do not give this gym your credit card information. The problems started weeks after I first joined, when I noticed an unauthorized $59.99 fee on my card.an undisclosed "annual fee" that no one thought to mention when I signed up. Since then I have had to religiously check my charges, as the monthly fee goes up without any notice.
Most recently I cancelled my membership, and have received three separate charges from NYSC West on my credit card since receiving confirmation of the cancellation. Not to mention the charges I got while the club was closed for COVID.
No matter what your experience is at this gym, it's not worth having to monitor your credit card and battle CONSTANT unauthorized charges after you sign up. It's a huge waste of time and I'm beyond frustrated. My advice is NOT to visit this gym, and if you do, prepare to watch your credit card statement very closely while you are a member. And invest time in contacting people to fight the charges. Whatever you do, make sure you cancel your card after you quit so that they cannot continue to charge it.
01 December 2020 15:35
NYSC have truly shown they do not care about their members. They tried to charge my account membership dues for September even though this club opened starting 9/28. Attempted to cancel membership by going to the 125th street club on 9/3 but they never cancelled my membership. Finally was able to cancel my account this week so due to the 45-day period, I will be charged an additional month plus cancellation fee. They did not notify when they closed and definitely not when they opened. The convenience of location is not worth the hassle.
07 November 2020 15:31
There’s some thing always broken in the bish and how you run out of clean towels at a gym? ‍️. I’ve canceled my plan cause I could get the same if not better at Planet Fitness.
02 November 2020 20:27
Was charged for month of April, when it was already closed, recieved an email that will not be charged until "all clubs will reopen" and will get a "credit" for month that I paid but it was closed. My local club is still closed, yet I got charged again in September. So what am I paying for? And where is this promised credit? Been trying to cancel membership remotely trough email, still no luck. I was a loyal customer for 5 years, I trusted this gym, and always enjoyed going there. Well, not anymore, this horrible and unfair experience changed everything and I can't wait for it to be over!
27 September 2020 23:51
Let me preface this review with stating that the training environment and staff at the gym are absolutely amazing. The reason for a 0-1 star review is that the gym equipment and upkeep is mismanaged by the administration leaving machines chronically broken and lack of addressing the issues the members have. The trainers do their best and are fantastic. If you want one of the most intense workouts of your life ask for Jonathan!
10 September 2020 14:30
They are the worst, taking money from my bank account WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION. Before the pandemic I spoke to them and put my membership at stop and now 4 months after they are taking money from my account and didnt even called me to say anything about it.i been calling and they don't even pick up the phone. I emailed them and they don't answer me.
25 July 2020 12:48
I had the worst experience with this gym, I decided to cancel my membership because the machines were always out of order and outdated. They charged $10 for cancelling, my membership was $26.99 but instead charged $36.99 because they had just increased it $10. Then charged $59.99 for the annual fee, which I had to pay in August if I was still a member but they charged it in July when I decided to cancel. Lastly, they charged $11 for prorated fees for who knows what. All of that just to cancel, I suggest YOU DON’T JOIN AT ALL!
27 May 2020 13:52
Half the machines are always out of order. The weights are never organized. The place is cleaned with about the same effort as my 8 yo son cleans his room. I can't be sure, but I think the place might have BEDBUGS OR FLEAS. This is the closest NYSC to my house, and I can't even go there because of the conditions. The other NYSC locations downtown and in Westchester aren't like this. Gee, I wonder why this one gets no attention.
14 April 2020 2:10
Beware when you cancel your gym membership. They trick you to pay an extra month. Untrustworthy staff. I was trying to cancel my membership since November 2019 over the phone but NYSC was always saying that I had to go in person. On January 9th 2020 I was at the 145th street location to cancel and the 45 days were supposed to expire on February 23rd not in March they are saying. The employee that I talked to said the cancelation was done and February would be my last payment and a $10 fee. Now they want to charge me extra month. I sent multiple emails, called a lot of times to speak with the manager and no answer about this situation. They ask you to go in person so like this you do t have proof that they actually cancelled your membership so they can take your money for one more month! Besides that the equipamentos are always broken, the ac doesn't work.
05 April 2020 23:37
If I could give this place a zero rating, I would. I Cancelled my membership back in September but I am still being billed! Management turnover rate is very high and they don’t detail the correct account activity, so no one ever knows what the last person did with your account. Terrible customer service! Will never renew my membership.
28 March 2020 7:32
Somebody needs to put an END to this scam, dirty gym, broken equipment, extremely rude staff and real struggle during the cancellation process, additional charges and threats with collections.
We need a class action lawsuit against these scammers!
23 March 2020 19:13
DO NOT SIGN UP ONLINE. THEY HAVE OFFERS ONLY AVAILABLE IN PERSON AND WILL NOT CHANGE IT. If u live past 100th street there’s no access to pools or racquet courts if you have a neighborhood pass which costs $55 online and $24 in person if you sign up. If you sign up online and want an in person offer you have to pay a second annual fee of $59. There’s a $10 cancellation fee. So for a 1 month member ship I just paid around $120. While the facility is convenient it’s not cost efficient. And there’s no customer service. They don’t need to retain customers ~ take your money elsewhere. THIS WAS AN EXPENSIVE MISTAKE. LESSON LEARNED. GO ELSEWHERE-

SERIOUS LIFTERS, STEER CLEAR IF YOU CAN HELP IT!

I'll start by saying that I was really looking forward to moving to this gym, as I happen to live in the exact worst spot for a decent gym around, being 30 blocks away from the Blinks at 125th and 179th. Now, the good: The staff is friendly, there are 2 squat racks, there is a deadlift platform, there is a hex bar (!)

The bad: The squat racks are the old models that have big spacing between notches, so the bar usually ends too high or too low, the bars are very poor quality and all but 2 are bent, the deadlift platform is incorrectly installed and has a 2" deficit, there are relatively few plates and if there is someone quarter-leg-pressing and you have to squat or bench, you will have to hunt around for 45s.

Also, the (lack of) manners of most members is pretty appalling; leaving plates on the bar and laying around is the norm. I even tried asking one guy if he would please clear the bar after he was done, he just said "nah" and walked away. There hasn't been a single day where I haven't seen other members leaving loaded bars and leaving. Once I had to take off 405 off the bar that someone had used for deadlifting and just left it there.

Sadly, I am stuck with this place because all the other gyms that have the basics are way too far, but if you have a Blink anywhere near you, do not hesitate to go to that, even if you have to walk a bit more. They are miles away quality-wise, their equipment is new and in great condition, AND they are cheaper! For less than what I'm paying now for a single-site membership I had an open pass to any gym AND I could bring a friend anytime on Blink.

Edit: updating this to remove one star, as now we have even less bars, to a point where you can be lucky enough to get a bench, but no bar - there are less bars than benches. Furthermore, 5 months later there is still no fix to the deadlift platform. Very poor management and overall experience. Come summer I'll go back to commuting to Blink because this gym is just horrible! Avoid if you can.
14 March 2020 5:31
2014: this is one of the better ones I've been to in manhattan.lots of space upstairs to stretch.clean.

Fast forward to 2020: My biggest suggestion is to have the Locker Rooms RENOVATED Completely! Mold on the shower walls. Carpet is dusty. More stools Need to added.
09 February 2020 8:44
Half of the equipment is always broken. The studio room has dust bunnies dancing across the floor because apparently it is never cleaned. They randomly changed my plan and started charging me more every month. I called 6 times and have still never received a response from the manager. I will have to call my credit card company, DCA, and the BBB now. The only reason they got 2 stars is because they do have some good classes and nice instructors particularly the hip hop and cycling classes.
03 February 2020 18:49
Feeling annoyed with this place. They told me I had to sign the book to cancel. This was in September. Now its December with more charges and an annual fee charge. They told me that I didn't respond to my email and that is the reason my membership wasn't canceled. I had to go back in today and was charged another $10 for the cancelation fee. Thanks you Victor for your help. I am so disappointed.
