New York Sports Clubs

I’ve been a member at NYSC for a very long time. Lately my 2 favorite Yoga classes are canceled due to lack of instructors. Overall the class schedule is way down from pre-COVID levels. Hoping management makes reinstating classes, especially yoga, a priority.

The staff are knowledgeable and the renovations are helping the space. Hope to see more progression. So far so good!

I’d like the thank all the parents of the surrounding area for signing up there 14-16 year old children for play time at Nysc gym! They have endless fun pushing punching and running around while the adults try and workout! They are dressed appropriately in pajamas and slippers and have the best time! Some of them even try and hurt themselves lifting weights! Congratulations intelligent parents of Scarsdale now i hate your kid just as much as you do! What an absolute pleasure it is!

Member since 1995. Other members are considerate the parking is free and plentiful. I live in a mile, so convenient. Hours of operation are meeting my needs. I’ve been able to adjust my workouts over the 27 years to meet my level of capability. I have switched from barbells to weight machines. I have adjusted my aerobics workout. The front desk is welcoming. The club cleanliness is consistent with their daily cleaning staff

I went there first time.i like it over there and comfortable. It's next to bus stop and shopping center.

This is nice quiet gym, everyone keeps to themselves, and it is never that crowded. They have everything you can expect from a gym including all the possible machines, free weights, treadmills, stair-masters, ellipticals, etc, plus spin classes, yoga, pilates, and more. The front desk staff is always friendly and pleasant, all the trainers really care about their clients' progress, and management is on point and respectful. I enjoy being a member of this gym.

I came with 3 other members for the day and the policy on not needing an adult if you’re underage had changed as of the beginning of the month. They hadn’t sent out an email to members or made any sort of announcement and I find it very unprofessional that the only option they gave me was to become a member? I can’t come for one day without my parent present but I can sign up for a full membership? It’s ridiculous and completely idiotic it’s mind blowing.

Never trust them your credit card, 4 month after canceling my membership they restarted charging me without my knowledge for months (6 to be exact) doubling the membership fee.

So great to be back but very empty. Old morning crew is not there. The gym is clean and well organized. The clean team in the morning is constantly working. It feels good to be back and I hope they are able to stay open.

I can not wait for this gym to be open. They charged for April which was a bummer but they are clean managed well (at least location billing issues with corp. Not the biggest gym but it has everything you need. Trainers are friendly and knowledgable and have given me tipa.without charging me. Parking is great. Equipment and facilities are outdated but that is pretty normal for gyms. No chalk policy also needs to be changed but maybe not during covid.

Super convenient location and decent equipment, but anything dealing with memberships or personal training is borderline fraud. It is impossible to cancel a membership and they lie about the costs associated with personal training. Be very careful.

I've been an active member of NYSC for 5 years now. I visit various locations like Dobbs and Scarsdale. Unfortunately, I had the worst experience at the Scarsdale location. The manager on duty, Knox, has exhibited very rude and unprofessional behavior. I have seen before my eyes him grab a mans belongings in a spin class, and move his chair to another one for no apparent reason. For myself, I was adjusting my spin chair and Knox childishly throws a tantrum, picking up MY belongings and ESCORTING me out the building telling me to NEVER return. I was HUMILIATED and EMBARRASSED in front of everyone. I am a dark toned middle eastern women, who had no idea why this was happening. I tried to email the corporation and they SIDED with them. SO please do not say to email you guys because YOU DID NOTHING TO HELP ME. I have disputed my charges and demanded an apology. This was by far the most humiliating thing to happen to me in front of the entire gym, solely for ADJUSTING my seat. As i write this, I still can not understand what I did to upset Knox, but it is clear he is UNSTABLE. Many employees have complained about his behavior and INAPPROPRIATE language. I STILL demand an apology in front of the people he humiliated me in front of, and for his termination. This was an unethical, inappropriate display of how not to treat a paying member who has been loyal for about 5 years. I will NEVER give them my money again. If NYSC wants to make it up to me, they will have Knox email me to come in an apologize. Other than that, I am not going to stop until something is done. I definitely have reported to the BBB where they have over 300 complaints one year.

I was considering joining so I went for a workout and half the equipment I personally planned to use was broken. Multiple people were waiting around awkwardly to use a lot of the things that did work. Also, I'm pretty sure the treadmills (I tried two) were not accurate. Finally, there were a few teenagers that were kind of just in the way, messing around and not really working out but still hogging equipment for literally no reason at all. I'm not sure if this is always the case, but I definitely won't be going back to this gym.

I have been exercising at NYSC in Scarsdale for about ten years now and not a single machine has been replaced. Every other machine in the gym is out of service or "being repaired, " but nothing changes. Half of the treadmills do not read accurate speeds, the elliptical machines make creaky noises, and the mats are dirty. The NYSC in White Plains has replaced its machines at least twice in this same time frame. Do not join this gym if you seek clean, up-to-date workout machines.

NYSC charged me for annual dues a month after my wife cancelled her membership. It is a terrible practice to charge a customer for the following year after they cancel a membership. NYSC should be ashamed of their business practice especially because the Scarsdale gym has old damaged equipment, unplugged tread mills with signs on them and less then clean facility.
You should correct this practice and return the charges!

I have been coming here for close to 10 years. It’s kinda a love/hate relationship. I always say I’m gonna go somewhere else but the the gym being pretty much walking distance makes it tough to leave.

Some big cons

I find it amazing how anyone who works their can sign you up for different memberships and take your money but if you wanna change your membership or cancel you can only speak with the general manager.

Machines will be out of service for weeks at a time. You will see the same sign on it collecting dust. A lot of the cardio machines haven’t been changed since I started there. The 5 new treadmills at the front I think are the only new cardio stuff I’ve seen lol.

Locker rooms are usually a mess and while it use to be the steam room never worked now that it’s working and not out of service half the time they will close it during peak hours to clean it instead of doing it before or after hours.

Pros

The staff is mostly great. The front desk people are always nice when they great you and the trainers are always willing to talk with you. Like anywhere there are 1 or 2 employees with a bad attitude but that’s just what it is no matter where you go.

It’s so easy to get to, There is always plenty of free parking, even on busy days at busy times you will get a spot. So many of the other westchester sports clubs you have to pay for parking.

Overall I’d probably do 2.5 stars if it let me but I will say it has improved recently especially in the front desk staff and the fact the steam room usually works now.

It’s convenient to where I live but compared to other NEw York sports clubs it’s really disappointing. There is no consistency in the machines. The showers in the men’s room are disgusting. Four shower stalls in the men’s locker room. 1 shower puts out scalding hot water (when it’s in order), another shower puts out cold water, one has little pressure and lukewarm water, I don’t know what the handicap shower does (I don’t use it out of respect for the elderly members and disabled). The steam room has trash and I am certain is never clean. I do not trust the complimentary shampoo conditioner and body wash dispensers. There was blood on the floor in the locker room, and a bloody towel on the shelf. I called the front desk and they came in to clean it, but did not do it with a blood pathogen clean up. So basically the mop used on the floors is probably contaminated. The staff is loud and obnoxious, I can hear them jeering through noise canceling headphones. The staff that run the front desk and the daycare are gems in the rough, they are very respectful and polite.

OUT DATED BROKEN MACHINES, MESSY LOCKER ROOMS WITH OLD MILDEW TOWELS IN LOCKERS.the front desk lady said she needed to take my pic for security purposes. I think she ment identification purpose. I could have shown her my ID but I was offended so I left.

I joined this club because of its convenience and because of the concern toward people with physical challenges demonstrated by its General Manager Michael Prestano. He is very nice and not intimidating. So for those who maybe feel deconditioned or too limited, come over and ask for Michael. I am very happy here and I designed my own workout with classes and stretching and some cardio. But I feel I am welcomed. As long as Michael runs this club it will be in good hands and I will feel valued here.

Great gym, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and convenient classes for midday availability. Place is hygienic and quaint. The equipment is in good condition, and maintained timely.

Went to this location because it’s the only one open on Christmas. Disgusting place. Filthy, many cardio machines not working, locker room was a pig stye. Couldn’t wait to get out of there. Only good thing was the nice person at the reception desk. Sorry for the short review, I have to run to Urgent Care to see if I picked up any diseases at NYSC Scarsdale
