Stopped by today and had a terrific experience. Real expertise, great selection, and a fun vibe. I recommend it highly.

Awesome store that has been around since 1911! I had a couple of hats that needed to be cleaned up and reshaped and Townsend was able to get them back to looking like new! You can tell he is very passionate about hats. They have a great selection for purchase too. Overall, really vibey and cool store!

2024: I'm really hate to do this, but the 5 star rating from 2019 need a new rating. I visit the shop in 2019, it was a great and cool expirience and deserved 2019 a 5 star rating. But in 2024 it looks like that jj hat center is running under a new managemant. All the unique and special Hats (really cool companys direct from new york and all ofer the world) are gone and replaced for stetson europe hats. Dont get me wrong stetson europe hats are god hats, but nothing special and for the qualitiy are totaly overpriced. Sorry to say that, but i lost my interest a jj's. I'll come back when Kev is back.

For me, the best hat center in the world! Friendly and very very very professional service! Really BIG collection of hats and caps, from A to Z, when you looking for a special one for your head and in top quality, will find it at J. J Hat Center. The shop itself please nerver ever change anything, it's like a time travel back in the New York of the 1920 or 1930. Best regards from vienna.

I brought in a hat with an inner band that had come loose from the original stitching & J. J. ’s was more than happy to hold onto the hat until the repair team could look at it. He called the next day with a very detailed message of what everything would cost and how long the work would take. He was extremely thorough and the work was done within 72 hours which was great. I’m very happy with the work - Thank you, J. J. ’s!

I bought a Stetson Hat in 1981 after seeing INDIANA JONES, haven't worn the hat in 40 years, I took it to JJ and the hat was cleaned for free and I was given a free dust cover. The fellow, I believe the owner, was familiar with the old shop and had worked there. I saw a beautiful hat there that will have to get. GREAT VIBES there.

Wife and i went to nyc for a day trip and visited this store the two gentlemen that were working that day made us feel so welcome even though i didnt purchase a hat i think the only reason i didnt was i could not do the purchase justice at this time in life and i just want to thank them for the great hospitality they gave us

Very disappointing.

The store appeared to be fully staffed. A staff person started helping me with my selections. I settled on one hat and wanted to try others. I drove from Massachusetts, and was intent on leaving with 2-3 hats.

The staff person decided it was more important to get their WiFi going and walked away.no explanation.

Said person walked by me multiple times without saying a word, nor asking an associate if they could continue where they left off.

I started talking to the owner/manager about the store history. A few short words later it was obvious he had no interest in talking or helping.

In short, there is definitely an arrogance here. Next time consider that the person you're looking down your nose at may have drove 3hrs+ and had you first on their trip.

Great place. There are plenty of different styles of hats. People working there were helpful. If you're looking for a hat, you have to stop by.

Outstanding customer service-my favorite stop for berets. What an incredible selection of hat-there is nothing sharper than a man in a beautiful hat. Love seeing the young men try on one and see how their expression changes! Great shop.

I never went here but I heard my 2nd great aunt Clara Bitter worked here in the year 1910 she lived on Fourth street in new York city do you all have records to see who worked there back in 1910 i heard your hat milliner opened in the late 1890's

The most amazing thing about NYC is its large array of specialty shops. There is no better place in the world to buy a hat than JJ Hat Center. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, their customer service is top-notch, and their selection of hats is unmatched. While supply chain issues have affected their variety, they are still the best.

JJ Hats PROMOTES, and knows the value of diversity, not only with the Brands they sell. JJ Hats (still) excels with the *brick n' mortar* customer service-game.

Had a lovely experience here. My husband went in looking for a specific hat, and came out with something nicer. The staff were wonderful, friendly and great at suggesting the different styles. Next time we're in NY, I'll come back and buy a new hat.

Excellent experience. Townsend and the shop owner pulled several hats for me to try, and made some spot-on recommendations that fit my style preferences and face shape.

The atmosphere was relaxed, and I never felt rushed or pressured to buy. It turned out that the specific colorway I had in mind wasn’t in stock, so they offered some customization options and even suggested a couple of other shops where I might be able to find what I was looking for. So nice!

Each of the pieces they showed me were well-crafted, and they had a nice range of styles from traditional to modern - even some funky/unique items. Absolutely worth a visit if you’re in the market for a good quality hat.

This is THE place for a top of the line hat. This place has the feeling of old world classiness and top quality products. The owner is down to earth and more concerned that you have a great shopping experience than just selling hats. He took his time and showed me several hats, after a while we found the hat i wanted, without knowing that I wanted it! He was gracious and gave me a short tutorial on how i should care for my investment. Truly a great experience.

I purchased all my hats here The staff is absolutely amazing very professional courteous your experience from beginning to end is absolutely amazing. Top class Business employees they always treat you with pleasure. This is my store. My wife purchased me a hat at a fine department store last year a beautiful Panama I wore it once and broke when we took it back to the department store they said it’ll take six months before they’ll even make a decision they need to send it back to Paris. I took the hat to JJ‘s they repaired it steamed it and Looked it over to make sure that there was no other issues with it to be honest they spent about Half an hour repairing a hat that I did not even purchase at the store. When I asked how much do I owe The gentleman said free of charge don’t worry about it it was a pleasure to serve you. I did give the gentleman a $50 tip. Don’t hesitate to go here and purchase a beautiful hat their selection is absolutely second to none the service is first class and they stand by their merchandise and after my experience I will never go anywhere else to purchase or even repair my Hat collection.

What a lovely afternoon we spent at JJ hat center. My husband and I were in town for our 10th wedding anniversary. I needed a new hat and left with two. Two gorgeous Panama hats. The finest quality at the going rates. The experience though with the staff was absolutely Marvelous. They steamed the brims exactly how I wished. They were also able to ship one that I couldn’t carry on the plane. It arrived well packaged and safe. We will definitely make this a traditional stop on our visits to New York City.

Flew in from Seattle and searched for the best hat shop in Manhattan. Was not disappointed, the entire staff welcomed us and created a truly unique and personalized experience.
