Erie Canal Cruises

We had a family emergency on the day we were scheduled to cruise and couldn't make it. We were politely called by the cruise company asking if we were en route. They offered for us to reschedule and made several attempts over the remaining season. We think that their customer service was far above average and hopefully some day we will enjoy a cruise. We fully understand their no refund policy and felt that they went over and above in attemping to assist us. Thank you, we enjoy doing business with such an honest and caring business.

This was on our bucket list and we weren't the least bit disappointed. Lots of historical information and friendly crew.

Fantastic, educational and beautiful. Please support this national treasure. This historical, innovative work of exceptional engineering belongs to all of us. This is a gentle, calming boat ride with beautiful views of water, sky and land. Birds lift off branches and rocks as we pass, while the captain tells the story of the canal and its development. After a few miles, you will get to experience the lowering and rising of one of the approx. 100-year-old locks still in service. The lock ride is really something. Whether you live in New York State or are just visiting-the ERIE CANAL CRUISE at Gems Along the Mohawk in Herkimer, NY is a great experience.

The actual cruise was enjoyable and well done. There were recorded narration and live commentary. However, much of the audio was ruined by a party of four individuals who thought it appropriate to talk loudly and laugh uncontrollably so as to prevent the other 10 passengers from properly enjoying the audio. Shameful behaviour.

Comfortable seats, nice scenery, entertaining and educational. The seats are enclosed in a canvas and plastic cover, but you can move to sit outside if you prefer. I sat in both places, even with a light rain (wearing a rain jacket). Loved the breeze on my face and unobstructed views from the front. I highly recommend this gem.

Very enjoyable cruise, captain and crew member were great!
Captain was very knowledgeable and presented a great history filled with facts on the building and creation of the canal system from the beginning to today.
Also the recorded narrative offered many interesting facts and history.
Unfortunately we could not do this in
a later time this fall but I would recommend doing when the trees are in peak colors.

An informative and fun trip down the canal and through a lock. We saw many birds, blue herons, egrets, King Fishers, and learned many interesting facts. The boat was clean and comfortable. I highly recommend the trip.

Beautiful boat ride on the canal. We learned the history of the canal and the impact on the forming of our country. I highly recommend this outing!

We tried their 1.5 hour cruise which was very interesting and going through Lock 18 was pretty awesome!

It’s leisurely and fun. The captain has a terrible sense of humor, but he owned it.

If you want a chill way to take a boat ride and learn a little something along the way - I highly recommend.

Great experience for all ages. Lots of historical and interesting information. And you get lowered through a lock and then raised through the lock on the return trip.

The Erie Canal Cruise was very enjoyable, we had a great captain and crew, all very knowledgeable about the canal and it’s history. The boat is covered and there is lots of shade to sit comfortably under.

Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The takes presentation is well done, providing history for building, use, and preservation. The captain was able to provide other information for the building, upgrading, and use of the canal. We learned a lot. Loved it!

Took our 10 year old grandson & the look on his face was priceless. He had recently gone on a field trip with his class, but being on the boat & physically in the locks gave him more of what it was like. It truly was worth the 2 hr drive to get there. The crew was great. They asked the kids if they wanted to drive boat. Would highly recommend it!

We went on the cruise boat yesterday in the afternoon, and it was a beautiful day. It was extremely simple to get booked and locked on for the cruise, just using my phone. Mary and I enjoyed the trip very much, as she was looking forward to going through a lock and seeing how it worked. Overall the experience was very enjoyable except for the narration being constant. The captain narrated a vast amount of knowledge which was informative and interesting, but it was so loud and distracting that there was to be no discussion between any of the people. That aside, it was a truly enjoyable and interesting event and I highly recommend it.

My husband and I went on the boat tour today. I've always wanted to do a Erie Canal cruise. It was wonderful. Mike, our tour guide was so informative, and comical. We learned so much about the Erie Canal. It was a very pleasant cruise and so glad we did it.
