Great place for delicious French pastries. There is always a long wait but it moves pretty quickly. I especially like the kouign amann and hot chocolate here. Would also recommend for lunch as they have nice sandwiches and quiches; they have seating in back. There is special cronut flavor every month so they always keep you coming back.
The king of cronuts without cronuts at 2 p.m. On a Monday.you can really feel the French touch. If you are in New York don't waste your time taking a detour to its mini boutique
I was on a recent trip to NYC in Oct23. I had cheesecake at Juniors, pastrami at Katz, knish at Yonah, pizza at Lombardis, bagel/lox/cream cheese at Russ%D and hot dogs at Grays. Of all of these, only Cronuts at Dominique left a lasting memory with me. Please open a store in Southern California.
So disappointed with my most recent experience here. I’ve always loved your cronuts. For years now, every month I line up to try the new flavor. I have a big family and since they have a limit of 2, me and my boyfriend always buy 4 and line up for another 2. I’ve asked the manager previously and they said this was okay as long as we lined up again. This time, after going through the line to get my additional 2 cronuts, a staff member said they were sold out and denied selling me Cronuts, because he recognized me. I know that when they sell out they make it very clear for the people on the line, so I know he was lying. I clearly saw them continue selling cronuts to the customers after me. I can’t help but feel like this is discrimination and will not be supporting this business any longer. It is such a disappointment, especially a loyal customer for a while now. Encountering this one racist employee was enough to stop my support. Please do a better job hiring your employees.
The cronut did not disappoint. It was crowded and we had to wait in line but it was worth the subway trip. I expected the cronut to be too sweet for me but it was just right. It wasn't any sweeter than a donut. The DKA was also very good. We also got a almond croissant and chocolate eclair. All were great but the cronut took the cake. Pun intended. Don't miss this New York original. We got there around 10am and they still had cronuts. I've heard that the do sell out.
I have visited the Dominique Ansel Bakery several times and each time I have been delighted! Of course, if you don't plan well in advance, there's a good chance you won't leave with the Holy Grail: the famous Cronut! But this wait is largely justified by the taste of this one! Each season, a different cronut, two per person per visit, is given. A real French success in the US! The only downside, however, would be the price of pastries in general, which is excessively high.
This success is strange. So 40 minutes of waiting because they have 2 tension in addition to being angry. The price is not in question, these are the NY prices so we know when we go there that it is not cheap.
On the other hand it is.dirty, dirty, total decrepitude, organization worthy of a Bangladeshi establishment. We wait like prisoners along the wall, next to the toilet with sliding door, we hear the splash when it's busy and it's always busy. The employees pass with the trash in front of everyone, 20 cm away since it is narrow, and then go back with the goods by the same "path", in front of everyone, unprotected, in the open air.the same employee who just threw away the trash.
In short, strange, personally I don't recommend it at all, rarely seen an establishment with such a pitiful price/service/cleanliness ratio.whether in NY or Islamabad.
Justified hype. We were there in the morning and hardly had to wait. Small shop, staff who hurry up so that the frustration of those waiting is kept to a minimum. A clear to-go concept and as such also 5 out of 5. A relaxed sit/stay on site is not the concept here, therefore no deduction from the rating.
I took two pastries and three pastries to taste Dominique Ansel’s creations. As for the cronut, I understand the very American bias and this crossing with a very sweet donut. As for the pavlova that I tasted, the jelly was extremely set. For me it's a runtime error. The kouign amann was very low in butter. You should not show this to a Breton, he would die from it. The pain au chocolat was very average too. I'm a fan of pastries and it's been a long time since I've had anything so unsatisfying. A real disappointment!
Overall, great place! There was a line (as expected) but it went pretty quick. The cookie shot was warm and amazing! My husband and I honestly thought the Cronut was underwhelming and too hyped but everything else still made the wait well worth it. The staff was also very friendly.
Everything is always perfect. Never had any complaints. Fresh and elegant cuisine. The best cronuts for sure. The cronut flavor of the month was passionfruit and vanilla. So obviously, I got one. I also got a ham and cheese croissant and a chocolate chip cookie. The staff was just the friendliest as well! I'll be back for my cronut next visit lol.
We tried the Cronut, the Cannele, 2 cakes and the DKA. We also got jars of coated nuts which make for great gifts! They were all very good. Honestly, the cronut at Cakeology in Winnipeg is better as they put in less filling (and it's cheaper). I think their cronut is actually based on the one from NYC. The DKA was my favourite but the Cannele is amazing! Very good. Lastly, I was a little annoyed at the request for at tip. They ask for a minimum 18% tip. For what? I'm not sure. There was no "service" per se. The staff did less than the cashier at Whole Foods. Does Whole Foods ask you to tip the cashier? No, of course not. So maybe Dominique is not paying his staff so they only get paid from the "tips"? I have no idea. For these prices, they should all be well paid.
A friend told me about this place in New York and we went there. The original pastries found there are truly impressive. Business a bit small and it is not possible to eat inside, but there are small tables outside. I would have liked to have had a welcome in French with only a little 《bonjour》 given the origins of Mr. Ansel!:) The service was good. They weren't the happiest people ever serving us, but at least they weren't rude. We ate outside and it was good. A great overall experience.
We got here at around 10: 30 on a weekday. Line wasn’t too long. There were still cronuts left (yay!), but they didn’t taste that great: (. It definitely would have been better fresh. To me, the frosting was too sweet, but the $7 Cronut and its filling were too plain on their own.
