Would still be good if they didn't close down the cave area periodically so some kids can throw a ball around. Second time this week I've been wanting to climb cave but not allowed to

I've been to BKB Queensbridge 5 times now, and it's one of the more unique gyms I've visited. The route setting is much more challenging than any other gym I've been to - I would say I'm a solid V3 climber usually i.e. I can do most V3s and maybe 1/3 of V4s in other gyms. Here, I am more like a solid V2 climber - their V3s are much more challenging, and I've been unable to top a V4 so far.

Other thoughts: I really enjoyed the free chalk stations, but the last time I went they were all removed, hoping they return in the future. Lack of smearing makes the betas a bit less fun, and you can only really rely on the holds. However, the routes here are some of the most interesting I've ever experienced, and the sheer amount of real estate is impressive for NYC. Overall a pretty solid gym!

My normal gym, GP81, is in the middle of relocating so I am touring the rest of NYC’s gyms. Overall, I quite liked this one. I visited in the day time during the week so it was not too busy. The problems are a bit hard for the grade but interesting and technically challenging. The gym itself was a nice temp and they have some unique and high quality amenities like a flavored water refill station and a salad vending machine. The day pass at $25 is much more reasonable than the Cliffs or Vital. I’ll happily return until GP81 is back.)

Friendly staff. Good community. I’m new to climbing so I don’t have other gyms to compare it to, but I love it.

Requires you to create an account with a third party data harvesting company just to sign their safety waiver for a day pass.

Had a variety of walls and a lot of chalk dispensers, very convenient. Also had sinks outside the bathrooms, which was convenient as well

We were really excited to try this place but unfortunately one of the employees, the male host with long hair, made our whole experience very uncomfortable, he willingly ignored our group multiple times and used subtle racism when talking to us, my friend who is a special needs individual felt very discriminated. We all bought the day pass and was expecting someone to introduce us to the facility, he was the only person in the front desk who signed
us up and just ignored us after we got our shoes. After standing there infront of him for 10mins we finally asked him if anyone will show us around, thats when he told us his shift is about to finish and he will show us around when someone else comes takes his spot. When someone else came for the next shift he spoke to them for few minutes and just left in a hurry, upon waiting 10mins more we asked another employee is he coming back? And that employee was shocked to hear what happened as well. Overall its a nice facility with some cool employees and patrons but unfortunately that employee made us feel very unwelcoming and I doubt we will be back in this location for the monthly membership.

I went this morning to ask questions about membership and clases for my daughter and myself I was totally ignore by the gentlemen at the front desk.
I decide to go to the other place not far from this one.

Great place! Lots of bouldering and a good amount of top roping. If you are looking to lead climb, the selection leaves much to be desired.

Great route setting - really fun climbs at the Queensbridge location. Had to think a lot and get out of my element a bit to solve them. Really warm though - could use better AC. Other workout equipment was pretty scarce - didn’t see any cardio equipment.

My dog and I are really sad about the updated pet policy. Given that we were able to bring the dog in from time to time, not only had no issues but also brought some joy to other climbers hopefully; so just really sad that this climbing facility is no longer dog-friendly.

Although a lot of people are migrating to the new Vital gym in Greenpoint, there are a lot of things I still like better about BKB QB, but the biggest things holding me back from switching back are:

(1) the horrendous AC. It's really hot and humid/they either choose not to turn up the AC or the AC is incapable of fighting the summer heat in NY. Any time it's above 75 degrees outside you can guarantee it's going to be muggy and gross here, which is pretty disappointing, especially this summer.

(2) how long the routes are left up. Vital swaps routes every week; not so at QB, which can often go two weeks without any route swaps. Given the size of the gym, if you go frequently, that can mean you've tapped out everything in the gym pretty quickly at your grade.

Otherwise, I think the setting at QB is more enjoyable, creative, and flowy on average than most other gyms in the city, although there can be an overreliance on crimps to bump difficulty.

That all said, i'll be sticking with Vital for the forseeable future unless those two things are changed.

Awesome place to go rock climbing, they clean the whole place each day, everyone is really friendly and this is a super great place to rock climb, no disappointments!

Tried one of the lessons a while ago, thought the coach was very helpful and motivating. There are lots of different levels to choose from depending on your experience and what you’re comfortable with. Overall, a great experience and money well spent.

It was a perfect outing for the lousy Memorial Day weekend fall weather. Nice accessible location, friendly and informative staff. Came with a friend we had fun. Plan on taking classes because, it was tough and I did not accomplish any climbs. LOL I Will be back.

The setting is pretty good. Now with COVID service has taken a leap down but it is still good. If you are serious about rope climbing don’t climb here. The walls are short and feel more like long boulders than sport climbs. The bouldering is creative and the grade range is real good. There is something for everyone.

My partner and I had such a great experience rock climbing for the first time. We took a beginners intro class with Roland. He was a great instructor! He guided and supported us. He taught us the fundamentals of the sport and I feel like I have the confidence to go back and climb on my own now. Can’t wait to go back! So much fun:)

Brooklyn Boulders is a good gym and I appreciate the routes they set as they are fun and can be challenging so you're working on them. The time each wall is left up is about a month and a half. The staff is really nice, they also have a sliding tier of membership for people who can't afford the full membership price that they cap at a certain number of people a month. The climbs can be pretty technical or burly, sometimes a combo of both. I appreciate the ropes area has taller walls than the Brooklyn location. The intro/ropes classes are effective. They leverage grigris for the rope walls not ATCs. You are not recommended to get lead certified/do a class for lead until you comfortable climbing 5.10s consistently.

The only cons I have to say are that:
1. The setters don't always take into account height/gender body differences. There's definitely some routes that I look at and I have to dyno or jump compared to someone taller than me (I'm 5'4) who can do it statically or dynamically but not having to throw themselves.
2. If someone gets injured there is not enough proper first aid items. Their ice packs are the WORST I've ever encountered. And the urgency on getting to someone who is injured seems to vary based on the staff member.

I got a complimentary visit after having a bad experience in another location. Really enjoyed our visit. Excellent and professional stuff. Everything is clean and in a great condition. Will be definitely going back.

I’ve been a loyal bkb member since they opened in 2016. Such a great place w kind and caring people and clean facilities with tons of airing and procedures that are covid friendly in 2020. I can’t wait til things go back to normal to use their awesome sauna!
03 February 2021 20:23
Their covid protocols are awesome. Clear floor marks, everyone always has a mask on. There's liquid chalk which is perfect.

Staff is so awesome and friendly. Lauren made my first time visit so awesome. Walked around and explained everything, even demo'd climbing/falling and showed the autobilay hooking mechanism.

Lots of bouldering options, lots of top rope options. About 5-7 auto bilay top rope options!

I enjoyed my time there a lot!

BKB Queensbridge is reopened for business! The reservation system, route markers, and floor markers work great to make sure climbers maintain distance and stay safe. Liquid chalk with 60% alcohol is available all around the facility so you are constantly disinfecting both your hands and the wall holds. BKB fam, let's get back to it!

So much fun! Check in was thorough and efficient. The only downside is that there are not enough auto-belayers (it’s a machine that helps people climb up and down the rocks without the assistance of a human). The auto-belayers are great for beginners and people that are just there for a climb. But other than that, amazing time!

This place is awesome. My friend recommended it and it was amazing.very clean and organized. And the staff there are so kind. This is one of the best rock climbing places I've ever been to. Its very modern too. I would highly recommend this place especially for there youth programs.

Good service! Came for a birthday party, had great conversations with my rock climbing specialists like Jed & Matt for the Watkins Twins Party).

Super friendly staff. I’m a member at the Chicago location, and really glad that I got to make it. It’s definitely the spot I’m coming to every time I’m back in Queens

Did the intro package which included shoe and gear rental. Our instructor was super nice and did an amazing job at helping us with getting to know the 101. I went around 11am and it was not as crowded as it was when 1pm hit. However, there is still space to climb. Overall I recommend this to any beginners like myself and even advance climbers!

Great place and nice staff. However I had a groupon that they didn’t honor, but gave me an adjustment. Adults are the same price as kids which is ludicrous. However, if you’re on the fence about rock climbing, check this place out!
