Do yourself a favor and take your money to another school. This review is your sign to NOT go here! Listen to me good don’t come to this school! This school is the worst! The environment is hostile! The rules are unnecessary and uptight! You can go to another school and have a better experience. Most of The teachers are so rude! Honestly just rude and so is most of the staff. Imagine a rude teacher that doesn’t even know how to do what they teaching you! If you think you don’t care and want a detailed education that’s still not this school! They should honestly be shut down! They only care about you doing guest hair and making money for them. There is no makeup hours at this school so god forbid you get sick or have anything going on, you will have all those hours added on at the end. The kits they give you are not worth the price and most things are already broken! My whole class had broken clippers that were never used, and they didn’t give us new ones or give us our money back. Then some of the items given in the kit are not state board approved! So you have to go and spend more money to get the right items to take your board. The late policy at this school is also trash. If you one minute late they sending you home! So let’s say the trains had a delay or something happen they don’t care they will send you home! Please just do yourself a favor and pick another school! You will hate your life if you come to this institution! I could keep going about how terrible this school is but I’m gonna just end it here but trust i could keep going!

I arrived 10 minutes before my appointment. A nice young woman checked me in and sent me up to the waiting area with a slip of paper with my name on it. There was only 1 person in the waiting area. By 1.05 pm, there were 8 of us. A young man with dark hair came out and collected our papers. He reminded everyone that since it’s a school, the time it would take to do our hair would be longer than it would at a regular salon. It appeared that he was a manager or an instructor. One by one, student stylists came out and called the names of everyone except mine. By this time it’s 1: 10. Another two women had entered the waiting room. A different instructor came out, took their papers and within minutes student stylists called for them. By 1.22, I’m wondering what happened to the paper with my name on it. I asked the person in charge of facials who kept popping out to see if anyone was there for a facial. She said she was with cosmetology and unable to tell me. I went downstairs to ask the woman who had checked me in but she was dealing with two people. Someone looked down the stairs from the waiting area. I asked if she was looking for me. When she said that she wasn’t, I explained that my paper had been taken 20 minutes ago but no one had come for me. She said I had to wait and turned away. I went into this knowing I’d be there for longer than I would at a regular salon but it’s not good when no one can confirm that your paper is in someone’s hands. It seemed that my paper had been misplaced. I told the front desk person this and she apologized. Everyone was nice but no one took responsibility for my appointment. I left at 1.27. It was a waste of my time and left a bad impression.

Please avoid going to this school at all costs wether it be as a client or student. I attended during covid and am STILL dealing with headache & upset from during my time as a student. We never had a FT instructor, we were constantly being covered last minute by whatever instructor they could find available even if it was just minutes before class. I had one instructor cover from Texas on zoom who vaped and yelled at her children during lessons. I had another instructor who has since been fired who racially divided the class and caused such a separation and disconnect that two students physically fought - YES, punched and hit each other in a spa room during a class lesson. I have reached out via email on different ocassions and have not yet to hear back and even was yelled at and hung up on recently by someone else on staff in the financial aid office.

To make matters even worse - a spread of STD was rampant during the class after mine because students were not properly taught how to disinfect and were allowed to wax themselves & others. Please do you research and please save your money.

Unfortunately my experience was very bad, not because of the students/professionals that worke there, they are amazing, but the receptionist was really rude to me. I don't pretend come back never again

It wasn't comfortable or soothing. It was very cold and noisy. I wasn't offered a pillow to raise my legs or for my head while getting a message. The teacher didn't suggest that my legs should be lifted, which created pain in my back. Too much lotions was left on my face without cleaning it off. I went home and saw salty residue on my face. It should have been relaxing, but it wasn't. I was displeased.

The Esthiology Educator, Gisela González has shown academic dishonesty by helping students cheat on all and I mean all of the test! This is no way to challenge your brain in the studies of Esthetics. She is a lazy teacher lol! The students will “never” fulfill the clinical hours although it is falsely printed in their contracts that you will. Clinical is the only way to independently learn without the teachers. If you want an easy way out, go to Aveda Institute, otherwise challenge yourself.

I look forward to my hair color because it always has a combination of uniqueness. I also like the fact that the students have teachers to guide them throughout the process.

I love coming here! I've gotten both a facial and my hair done and it was amazing! 10/10 would recommend for anyone, especially students in the city who want an affordable salon experience:)

I am so grateful that I found Aveda Institute. I was nervous at first but from the moment I walked in I was welcomed. I was looked after by V. My experience was as awesome as just hanging out with a friend (who knows how to do hair). The instructor was very helpful whenever a question arose about how to proceed with the hair cut. I am so happy I went. Thank you to V, her instructor and the gentleman at the register for being awesome.

Please do not use the beauty school. I was really naive, looking for salons in NYC. I was familiar with the aveda brand and booked not realising it was a beauty school. When I checked in and realised it was a beauty school the front desk assured me I was in good hands and it would be supervised by senior staff. The student I used had no clue and the manager couldn’t care less about supervising. Had highlights that caused major breakage and damage. Was close to tears in the wash basin. Customer services were great about fixing the colour at a salon and sending complimentary products as after care but was one of the most upsetting experiences because it took months/ years to grow out the damage as I wear my hair long. Wish I had never gone.

Got a most excellent hair cut today from Karen Z, with expert input from Mallory; these ladies were professional, personable, and top of their game. Great experience for me; this is now my go-to hair salon in NY. Highest recommendation.

Was my first time trying Aveda school but I had a fantastic experience and gorgeous haircut here! The ambiance is absolutely delightful, the students and supervisors are kind, thoughtful, exactingly meticulous and very attuned to my desires. Thank you for making haircuts joyful again!
