The good here is 5*, as is the service. Great little gem in Portsmouth. The food is Fantastic. Can’t wait to return.
We got takeout last Sunday and it was just as good. I love it when a restaurant keeps the same standards for take out as it does for dine in.

We had Seafood Masala and Mixed Tandoori grille. Both were exquisite! Service was great and beautiful atmosphere/ lighting.

Great food! Thrilled to have found some great tasting Indian food here in Portsmouth. Got the Lamb vindaloo and naan bread on Monday night which were delicious. Service was great as well.

They do have india food but their service is not for Indian people!
The front lady was rude…!

I liked the ambiance here. My family was here for dinner but it's good to reserve table in advance because of the wait time.
I really enjoyed butter naan and Malai kofta, it was too good!

I never write negative reviews till the time I feel all the rules were violated and it happened first time. We went this place on Mother’s Day because we were in Portsmouth Downtown and saw the ambience of the restaurant, which was very elegant, love all the decor, lighting and everything. We expected food also to be of same quality but it was very disappointing. First of all we need to wait for almost 4o minutes for our main course. I understand it was a busy night so we were ok but then the food was just horrible. No taste, no flavor and no fragnance Of fresh spices. Out of three curry, kadai chicken, mughaliye and lamb Korma, only one was edible which was lamb korma and it was really really good. All the three people just ate their main course in that one curry only. I called the staff and told them about the food, so the person who was taking our order was always in hurry. He does not have time to listen to what customer is asking for. He called I guess the owner of the restaurant. She came to our table she spoke to us. She was patient, she listened to our concerns but she did not accept as we told her that they did not give enough time to cook the spices in those two dishes, it is just raw. She would have accepted the mistakes done by Chef. Everyone can do the mistakes especially on busy night. Instead she started telling us that she never went out of Portsmouth so this is the way they cook Punjabi food and this is their best version of food. I was just wow this is insane. She did offer us that if we would like to replace the dish, I was ready to do that but my family was bit reluctant they told her no and mention that we all can manage in one curry only, we just would like to give you honest feedback. Those two dishes were just simply sitting on our table because they were not edible. At the end during our billing she did give us gift card and I was like why we need gift card. If you don’t treat your customer in a best way and don’t listen their feedback properly then do you Expect them to come back to your restaurant again? I just thought to return the gift card back to them but my family is like very kind they told that no it will be rude to return their gift card. So we just took it and but def we are not going to come back to this restaurant again and will never suggest anyone also. I feel instead of all this she would have taken off those two dishes from our bill that is the way you value your customer time and trust, not just manipulating them. Again it is not about money. I would have paid extra for those dishes also but it should be worth.

Excellent. On par with what you find in Boston, NY, and LA. Quick, good price, beautiful atmosphere.

Delicious food! The pickup order took a little longer than the stated pickup time, but it was so delicious we didn’t mind too much. I’d eat this food again!

Literally the best Indian restaurant outside of the UK (and I've been to quite a few in the US that are sub par)

Like most American Indian places the spice level isn't denoted by the dish unlike the UK. You can ask for stuff Indian Hot as well if heat is your thing. But even when you ask for it that hot, it is flavorful and delicious. It will just take you a long while to eat it haha

I wish places had the multitude of toppings for poppadoms but that seems to be a UK thing unfortunately.

Highly recommend this place if you want the tastiest Indian food in New England. (That I've experienced so far)

Worth the 40+ mile drive to get there.

Walking into Shalimar was likr walking into another world. I love Indian food/Indian restaurants but this restaurant is the best I've ever had. Was not expecting it to be as DELICIOUS as it was. The atmosphere was breathtaking and the service. IMPECCABLE! Will DEFINITELY be returning again and again and again

Been here on multiple occasions now and will continue to come back. The food is incredible - highly recommend the "dinner for one/two/four" option as you get to experience a variety of amazing dishes. The staff are extremely hospitable and attentive; the service is impeccable and we have never had to wait long for any of our dishes. The interior is gorgeous and just makes for a truly relaxing atmosphere. Cannot recommend Shalimar enough!

Absolutely delish. Service extremely quick and food delivery well paced. Tasty curry. Spice levels accurate to their advertised ratings. Staff very friendly and kind. Barry or Robbie, was out server. Great guy.

Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. This was my first time in and we will certainly be back soon! Highly recommend the Baingan Bhartha (eggplant) and Chanaa Masala (chickpea) dishes, with a side of Paratha bread!

Very very unprofessional place I have ever seen we were late to reach the place but when we called them they said our kitchen gets close 8.35 so we asked can we give order now and then came there and eat they said yes on phone but when we reach there they said no your order is for take out and we are closed I mean that's very worst thing we clear on phone and when you reach you have to take your food and eat outside. And the owner or the manager (the lady) was like less than interested doing her job she was very unprofessional.i mean it's too cold outside how can we eat. Will not visit the place again ever they just wanted to close they were in rush to close even after we confirmed on phone that we are coming to eat there.

Worst place I have one just to give review or else I will not even give half start.
