FilmScene at The Chauncey

Finally went here after wanting to a long time. I see they have a lot of different movies that wouldn't get played at a Marcus theater but are definitely worth catching. The tickets are inexpensive, but the popcorn and soda are not! When you buy your ticket, take note that it is reserved seating so you'll want to see where it is before you sign up for it and find out you're in the first row.
Staff was very friendly and the place is quite clean with comfortable seats and a great sound system. I will definitely be coming back often, with my own pocket full of gummy bears.

Best movie watching experience ever. Great selection of craft beverages, clean atmosphere, and the most comfortable seating.

I enjoy coming here and watch indie films. Sometimes they can feel pretty cryptic or straight out unstimulating, but they are all interesting in different ways. The facilities are nice and comfortable

Pretty cool place to see a movie. Small theater set up with comfy seats. Saw a few Oscar winners here. There is more than just movies here too. Bar, bowling alley, food and video games too. Great place to take the family. Easy to find location with plenty of parking

Great venue! Tickets are affordable, seats are comfy, and they have a great beer selection! Highly recommend the Grind House series on Wednesdays!

Second time at FilmScene since I moved here last winter, but first time at the Chauncey location. This place is such an asset to the Iowa City area! Get out there and see a film and support this non-profit if you haven't already. You won't be sorry. (The parking garage next door is another story though: The "simplified" ticketless process seems like it should be a great idea but there were SO many steps, and one gets the impression one of the goals is to harvest your personal data. Not run by Filmscene though, I don't believe.)

Enjoyed the film Mother lode on Sunday the 20th and it was great to meet the director who traveled all the way from Italy and participated in a Q & A with the audience and that was extremely interesting. The finger foods, wine and desserts were excellent! The building is great and with my architectural background I appreciate the design and details.

Beautiful theater with comfortable seating, but most importantly FilmScene is nonprofit and shows films that are of artistic quality, topics/themes of importance, or not likely to be shown in mainstream theaters. It was the Bijou in my days as a UI student and is FilmScene now, and it's a gem of the Iowa City area community.

The Refocus Film Festival was amazing. I'm looking forward to it next.
The staff is always pleasant and helpful and the movies are interesting.

I feel so fortunate to have a theatre like Filmscene so close to where I live. They show films that I wouldn’t be able to see anywhere else. Staff is friendly and very helpful.

The building is nice and inviting, the seats are comfortable and it doesn't feel crowded. Obviously, the movies are the best part, having an independent film company is a plus for Iowa City and the surrounding areas, I drive from Rock Island to watch movies here. Concessions has nice snacks and drinks and prices are fine.

Great ambiance! Comfortable seating! Discount on tickets for age 60 and up among other discounts. Vegan popcorn! Wine in real glasses! Good selection of other beverages and treats. The movie was great too. A wide variety of films both old and new.

Like you are going anywhere else for a good movie. Every movie is a little more of an event. Great staff, great services, great seating. Plus, their movies in the park are great fun.

FilmScene at the Chauncey is the best movie going experience in the area, bar none. The seats are comfortable, the theaters are clean, the popcorn is DELICIOUS, and the people are so friendly and passionate about their work.
I recently got to experience Dune and The Batman on opening night and could FEEL the movie, the sound quality is top notch making for a much more immersive experience. The other day I saw The Batman in a Dreamlounger in CR's Marcus Theatre.what a let down by comparison (especially the subpar sound quality).
If FilmScene is showing a movie you'd like to see, see it @FilmScene you'll not regret it!

I. LOVE. THIS. THEATER. It is one of the things that makes Iowa City such a fantastic and amazing city. It has the craziest films and I get such a thrill looking at what pops up on their schedule. I have seen Clockwork Orange, Chungking Express, City of God, and all sorts of crazy and amazing classics here. The first film I ever saw was Titane and it blew my mind and told me this place was something unique and special to have a film like this proudly on the screen. Without the Film Scene Iowa City would to be as unique and stimulating place, it makes my brain expand and explore new ideas, cultures, and worlds through its films. Don't miss it, PLEASE! The theater itself is amazing and I love the intimate one on the Ped Mall just as much.

For the cinephiles in the area, it has auteur, avant garde, and mainstream choices which are certain to please. FilmScene, also, features a rare sense of shared passion for cinema, and excellent customer service that can only be explained by a mission: to facilitate enjoyment!
