Poor service with no regards for their clients time. I had a 8am appointment and was in the office 15 minutes before my appointment. I told the office before my appointment that I had anxiety about my visit and after inquiring when I would be seen 15 minutes after my appointment time I left the office. I’m a business owner and my time is valuable so I wouldn’t recommend Marcus Dental in Hyde Park. 0 stars in my opinion

Been a long time patient. Employees are professional. Dental Hygienists takes their time while giving you a deep dental cleaning. Very clean facility. Go! Book an appointment. You won’t be disappointed.

I’ve been a client since 2016. Their service has gone downhill. Long waiting times (over an hour), changes in personnel that affect a procedure, poor customer service from the manager.

Manus has been my dental office for years for all my dental needs. I love my Dentist Dr Obaisi and orthodontist, she has now left this practice. The issue is the front desk. Since covid this service has gotten extremely unbearable to deal with. The phone is never answered and their attitudes are really like IDGAF. This is the type of attitude that runs any business into the ground. They use a text number but when asked for an issue to be resolved the person running the line stop responding. Today I had to literally walk in to get an answer. When I asked why didn't someone respond or call like requested, I was told they were on break. What kind of office would have all 3 receptionist take break at the same time. They do not care and it's evident in their attitude.

We have had a very up and down experience with the orthodontics at Manus. The issue is availability of orthodontists and response to issues that arise with braces. Last night my daughter‘s lower permanent retainer became detached on one side. We went to the office at 8am to see if they could cut the protruding wire until it can be fixed. We were told there were no assistants or dentists to help. My frustration was hard to contain but I received no assurance that the problem could be resolved. The next appointment is two weeks out. The office referred me to another ortho in Wicker Park but this office said they had never heard of Manus and was shocked my daughter was not receiving receiving emergency care. Apparently a loose retainer that is cutting your mouth is not an emergency at Manus. To get her emergency care we will have to switch orthodontists and pay for an assessment and retainer that should be included in our treatment plan which is paid in full. Yep.

Terrible experience. Orthodontist was switched in the middle of my care with ZERO notice. New doctor is never in the office, and my ortho appointment has been postponed for 4 months since they don't have any availability. Don't come here if you want timely care!

It's fine for a cleaning, but getting a cavity fixed there was brutal. I had constant throbbing pain at the site of the filling, something I had never experienced anywhere else when getting a filling, and had to take pain medication hourly to function. I eventually had to get a root canal to stop the pain. The whole ordeal cost me over $1k.

I’m middle aged and have been to many dental practices over the years. The cleaning I received here and consultation was extraordinary. The explanations were uniquely thorough. The kindness is unmatched.

This was by far the quickest appointment ever. We were a little early, coming from the south suburbs with construction and during rush hour, we didn’t want to be late. As a new patient there will always be paperwork, we couldn’t finish completing it before being called to the back twice. We came, we were seen and done. One of our best experiences, thanks to the entire staff and surgeon.

I went to Manus in February to have my wisdom teeth removed. The procedure went fine, the doctors were nice, but HOLY MOLY the billing here is crazy! I paid $850 out of pocket and my insurance paid the rest, and I move on with my life and personal budget.

Fast forward to the end of July. I get a notice saying that I still owe $400! I call Manus and they forward me some to group they contract out to do their billing (I can't talk to anyone at the dentist office). They give me the run around, explain why there's nothing they can do about the payment, and eventually say "if I can't pay, it'll go to a collection agency".

To make the matter more frustrating, my bill is full of contradictory information. My "total charges" are $269 and my "total balance" is $397. According to my bill, my "previously paid" is $62, but the woman at the billing agency said that I've made two payments worth $850 and $9. What in the world is going on? The bill is contradictory, and I'm receiving notice of my payments almost 6 months after my procedure.

My issue isn't with how much I'm paying (I have good insurance and I don't know enough about the procedures to know if $1250 out of pocket is a lot or a little). My issue is that I paid, they told me I was okay, then almost 6 months later they reach back and tell me I owe an extra $400.

My only consolation in this is that I was worried that my "surprise bill" of $400 was the consequence of my messing up. Maybe I didn't pay enough, maybe I missed a payment and this charge represents interest. If anything, it's comforting to know that I'm not in this spot because of my negligence. My warning to you is that you too could be charged hundred of dollars months after your procedure through no fault of your own.

Everything at Manus Dental was great until my wisdom tooth extraction about a year ago. Two things have made me leave this review: first, the horrendous bedside manner of their oral surgeon, Dr. John Chae, and second, their uncommunicative (scammy?) billing department.

Dr. John Chae was misogynistic and very rude. The surgery went smoothly, but I will never forget his terrible bedside manner. During my consultation, he seemed weird, but I had no reason not to trust his skills as an oral surgeon, and I needed to get the surgery done soon, so I scheduled the surgery. I don't like needles and I had never had an IV before, so on the day of the surgery, I was nervous, and I told the hygienist and the surgeon that. I was pretty shaky, and my heart rate was near 170 when they were about to put the IV in. Instead of being understanding, Dr. Chae berated me and asked me how I was ever going to have kids if I couldn't handle an IV. My ability to have kids was not relevant and was not something he should have commented on. He also told me I was being a baby. Like I said, I was shaky and nervous, but I was compliant and not rude or causing any kind of a scene when they wanted to put the IV in. His behavior was totally uncalled for.

Second, before the surgery they told me how much I would owe. They had cleared all the charges with my insurance. There were no complications during the surgery, and the charges were exactly as expected. I paid right after the surgery, and I have the receipt. One year to date after the surgery, with absolutely no prior communication, they sent me a bill for nearly $700 for the surgery. I have tried calling their billing department four times at different times of day and days of the week, and I have left messages at least twice. No one seems to be in, and no one has returned my calls for weeks. I feel like they just expected me to pay the $700 without thinking.

On the positive side, the dental hygienists, front desk staff, and the other dentists were always kind and did a great job. However, with their scammy, unresponsive billing and their incredibly rude oral surgeon, I cannot help but leave a 1 star review.

The dental hygienist and the doctors were nice. They explained what they were going to do for a procedure and talked me thru it while completing. However, when it came to completing the procedure, I wasn’t numbed at first and I should have been. They caused a bit of pain.
The front office team are not friendly. I do not recommend conversing with them. They were not helpful, genuine or interested in keeping me as a customer. They were not willing to work with customers in matters of payment plans especially during this time of inflation.

I will not be back.

Over the course of a month, I made several visits to Manus Dental, which included a new patient exam, dental cleaning, and dental fillings. Ultimately I chose to discontinue receiving care at this dental practice for the reasons enumerated below.

1) Scheduling is a pain.

What could have been two visits was stretched out into four. When scheduling, I was clear that I would like a dental exam and cleaning on the same day. However, upon the completion of the exam by the dentist I was informed that I was scheduled only for the exam and not the cleaning. Their explanation was that the dentist and the hygienist have separate schedules. In all my previous experiences with dental exams, they were paired with a cleaning. Not only is that not the case here, what is even worse is that you may not find that out until the day of your appointment.

Decoupling the schedules of the hygienist and the dentist allows them to accommodate more patients for each type of service (at the expense of the patient, who may need to take time off on multiple days). More patients means tighter schedules for the dentists, so if you need some unexpected work done, you will need to schedule an additional appointment. During the actual appointments, the care I received felt rushed, as if the doctor was squeezing in my appointment during a coffee break.

2) Low quality of the dental work.

The scheduling issue directly contributed to a decrease in the quality of the dental work that I received. Of the three fillings that were done at Manus Dental, within a couple of weeks one came off completely and the other was discovered to be in the process of detaching. Pictures of the partially detached filling revealed work that looked sloppy even to a non-professional like me. The process of redoing the fillings at a different dental office took significantly longer than the original fillings (but cost half as much, see point 3), which to me is an indicator that my procedures were not allocated the appropriate amount of time and attention at Manus Dental.

Additionally, I have a suspicion that the dentists here are maybe a little too enthusiastic to prescribe procedures such as cavity fillings. During my exam, I was told that I have six cavities, whereas previous exams at different practices consistently revealed at most one or two each year (with no changes in my dental hygiene routines). I have not yet confirmed with my new dentist whether all those cavities actually need work, so this may be nothing but a suspicion, but it brings me to my next point:

3) Shady billing practices.

For each of my visits, I was provided with a nice printout with all of the suggested procedures and associated costs. This was encouraging, given that several previous reviews mentioned that Manus Dental has been working on improving their billing transparency. However, upon comparing printouts from two different visits, I found that the exact same procedures (same tooth number, billing code, etc.) were quoted at different prices before insurance. Additionally, several entries were changed to different values with whiteout and ballpoint pen. In summary, I am not confident in the transparency of this dental office's billing practices and I suspect that I was overcharged for most of my treatment.

The only positive thing that I can say about Manus Dental is that I was able get an appointment relatively quickly (at least in the middle of the day). However, this positive becomes irrelevant when the above three points are taken into account. These observations resonate with some of the complaints found in other reviews, which I regretfully ignored as I needed to see a dentist quickly.

I really wish this place worked out for me, since it is conveniently located in Hyde Park. However, the Loop and South Loop both have a variety of smaller dental practices and are just a short Metra ride away. Save yourself time, money, and frustration, and seek treatment at a dental practice that does not prioritize patient throughput and profits over treatment quality.

I’m a new patient and Everyone was very welcoming and the atmosphere was relaxing! My appointment was at 12: 30 and i got seen right away! Walked me through every procedure and gave details of what was going on with my teeth! I loved everything about my visit!

I went to Manus as a new patient in March. Manus told me that everything was good to go for my insurance, and based on that, I made and kept my appointment. (I had asked them specifically to double-check about my insurance, because another dental office I had called that was supposed to be in-network had turned out not to be.) But afterwards, they sent me a bill, and my insurance company sent me an explanation of benefits saying they paid only part of the bill because Manus was out-of-network. This seems unfair given that it was on account of Manus's error that I was misled and made the appointment. I have called Manus 4 or 5 times now, and have never been able to reach a billing person on the phone or received a callback. What makes it even more frustrating is that this is clearly not because the Manus billing department is short-staffed: they keep resending me the bill, but for some reason refuse to engage with me about it.

The chief dentist, Dr. Obaisi, and her hygienists (the website doesn't list their names, alas), have a gentle and deft touch with their tools, and a firm command of their work. I always know I am in good hands here. It's usually busy, but more so on Fridays. As for any dentist, schedule an appointment well ahead – but they can flexibly handle a short-notice emergency.

Dr. John Chae is an excellent oral surgeon. He is very professional and knows his job. The staff at the office have great customer service that makes you want to visit them again. Special thanks to Andreal who stood by me and assured me that everything will be okay. She assisted the surgeon during the extraction. I had a very bad tooth extraction in the past at another inexperienced dentist. So I came to this place with some fear and reservations. They did the extraction so efficiently that I couldn’t believe it was all done. When it was time to check out and pay them, my medical wage work card acted up. Tiara patiently helped me to call the card customer service to ensure the payment went through. She did not rush to demand another card for the payment. My wife who was waiting for me at their reception was so impressed by comments from all their customers that she immediately booked appointments for herself and the children to see the dentist. If they impressed my wife so much, believe me they are excellent because my wife is not that easy to impress. I hope they will keep up this level of excellent service.

There is a dentist an orthodontist in office a relatively small share of the time, as far as I can tell. They tend not to be responsive to calls or emails from their patients. I use them because they’re really the only option close to my home, but I really wish for better customer service.

HORRIBLE! Do Not Waste Your Time! 1st time patient. I booked my appointment on August 27th for October 12th appointment. Manus is the only dentist I've every experienced where you have schedule two appointments for routine cleaning and that should have been a red flag. I specifically scheduled my appointment centered around both the dentist and hygienist would be in the office on the same day. Manus Dental Office text me 6 times and called me on the day of reminding on my appointment.
The day of my appointment the receptionist called me at 11: 30am unfortunately the dentist is not in the office to but you can still come in and get your teeth cleaned. What's the point if I have to come back so the dentist can review my x-rays and mouth. Manus Dental schedule two appointments on purpose so they can bill my insurance twice. I can't believe this office is still open. I do not trust Manus Dental and I'm sure they would have exaggerated me needing costly dental work to get more money. Absolutely not!

Today was my first visit at my new dental office and I must say the staff and dental team ALL provided Excellent Care and Stellar Customer Service. Sharina is AMAZING Director of 1st Impressions in greetings patients in person and over the phone. I received a great recommendation and recovery plan for my dental problems.

Avoid this place at all cost. I came here to have my caps filled in and the dentist did them wrong, which resulted in me being on a sh*t load of pain for weeks after the procedure so I had to go back. She fixed the issue and told me that it would be free of charge, but I ended up with a $100.00 + balance because of a supposedly X-ray charge that they were refusing to adjust off. Not to mention, when I was there the last time I told them that I didn’t think it was right for me to pay for a x-ray fee when I wouldn’t have had to come back and go through the process, had she done it right the first time… The manger came out and said my insurance was going to cover it (I guess she lied so I can leave) just for them to start sending me text messages about me owing the money anyway and started threatening to put my bill in collections… this place is money hungry and a joke… How are you guys going to charge me because of y’all mistake? I actually liked this place and was going to spends thousands of dollars coming here, it’s sad that they loss a good customer because of greed and stupidity. I’ll take my funds elsewhere. Please stay away, these people will make up a reason to charge you for anything, even if they’re at fault.

At my visit this morning, Manus Dental took all kinds of safety precautions to keep both staff & patients safe: limiting the number of patients waiting inside, hand sanitizing, temperature monitoring, plastic shields at the counter, lots of mask-wearing and physical distancing, air purifiers everywhere, and thorough cleaning practices. The dentist and all of the staff were kind and professional. I appreciated that so much. And my hygienist Amber was both thorough and gentle when she cleaned my teeth, which can sometimes be sensitive, esp when I'm nervous. Thank you for a really positive experience today!

In preparation for my visit they did not gather the x rays or right hardware, nor they let me know. I took off from work, I went there, everyone said “I am sorry “ and I left seeing the dentist for 2 minutes.

My experience was very positive. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The facility is nice and clean and they are especially conscious of health and safety during the pandemic. They dentist and technicians were knowledgeable and explained things in an easy to understand manner. If you are in need of a new dentist I highly recommend Manus.

They're awesome. Professional and friendly. I was having trouble getting my info from another dental office and they got on the phone and straightened it out themselves. The dentist was very informative and honest and just helpful all around. They were great.

I have had great experiences at the Manus Dental office. Dr. Amber is amazing. She keeps me calm. That is a great feat. I hate dentist offices. So I highly recommend this establishment.
